Margarito has ONE WEEK!!!

Hey guy I don't know how many of you can speak Spanish but i just read this article that stated that the WBO president, Francisco Valcárcel, said that possibly by this very week he will auction a mandatory bout with Paul Williams. I'll translate some of the more important things about the article for those who don't read Spanish. He says that "We (the WBO) agreed to the Clottey fight first because we had an understanding with Bob Arum that following that fight Margarito would fight Williams. All of this was postponed until we knew for sure that Margarito was good to fight after injuring his hand after the victory over Clottey. But since they (Margarito's Camp) said that he is good to fight, we are ordering this now!!!" (As we all know Margarito's Camp wants a unification bout with Miguel Cotto (my man) on June 9 in Madison Square Garden) "We finally got a hold of Todd DuBoef (president of Top Rank) said Valcárcel (WBO president) and he told us that we at the WBO could do whatever we want with the WBO tittle, eventhough we all know that Margarito's camp does not want to loose the belt in that fashion". "We prefer a fight against Cotto, champion vs champion, for a unification bout" confirmed Francisco Espinoza, manager of Margarito. "We hope everything gets resolved by this week" he also added. I would still like to know what has Williams done to garner a title shot??...beating a bunch of bums and Sharmba Mitchell does not mean you deserve a shot at the title...This is why I hate the ranking system and the fact there are so many titles

I do agree....But to do that we give him a title shot?......I am not saying anything about him winning or losing against Tony...I am saying what has he done to deserve a shot at a title...Tony's or anyone else's...There was once a time you had to beat some ranked fighters before you got a title shot...I think they called it working your way through the rankings?....

Margarito should do everything he can to keep the belt but if he can't,as he's only fighting a 10 rounder in March to check the ankle and wrist, he should give it up,fight Cotto,may be win there and fight Williams,unify the belts. It's a good situation for Tony,he's always wanted to unify but hasn't been able to for whatever reason but in Cotto and (if he has to relinquish the title to him)Williams,he ahs 2 guys who'll fight him and I expect those 3 to have a few matches between each other some time this year depending on how the situation works out. Remember,Tony has wanted to unify since he won the WBO title,that was a while ago!

As for Williams,I agree,he has not done alot to be number 2 but we know it's all politics. It's whoever can keep the pockets of the alphabet soup titles presidents filled the most.It' been like since the beginning of boxing hasn't it?

Money makes the world go round why should boxing be any different?.....IMO and I am sure that of many To be ranked you need to beat a ranked guy...that simple but then again I just write about it

Well, apart from anything else, Mosley and Collazo are fighting each other in the near future, so they're out as opponents for now, so why not Williams. And I wouldn't exactly call Margarito a tested fighter either at this stage in his career...

Who did Margarito beat to win his title?? Who has he defended against?? This is a fight that boxing fans want to see, no two ways about it.. Fact is that they are trying to make MArgarito Cotto happen in JUNE... That means this fight could easily happen sometime in march or around there. And you know theres absolutely no chance Margarito is going to fight anyone more dangerouis or more deserving of a title shot before then.. I believe Cotto still has to fight his mandatory Urkal.. Don't hear anyone complaining about that.. Why? because noone thinks he'll lose. OTkay Urkals last two fights at 147 were agains't guy's that were 2-4, and 1-9 Why would those fights even be made, how did he get so highly ranked? Who cares, Cotto won't lose? Just think about it.. THese Tony fans are trying to justify his avoiding a mandatory or ditching his belt in order to preserve a match with Cotto in June... When meanwhile they both last fought on the same card, and Cotto is defending his belt in between the two dates.. It's really a no brainer what SHOULD happen, Williams is his mandatory, and a hell of alot of a better one then Urkal, MOsley vs Collazo is happening, who else would you like?

CC 305. Perfectly put in the first part alone. Although Clottey and Cintron were both good opponents, especially Clottey. But a title defense should be against a worthy challenger. And Williams is a worthy challenger. Who has he beat? Well...no one really but it's how he's beat them. It's obvious he has tons of potential and has a hype train and that's all you need to get a title shot now. Hell Margarito got a title shot by losing to Daniel Santos.
