Default What If Ali Didn't Have Parkinsons?

I was thinking about this before and I ask what if he wasnt stricken with the Parkinsons How much more could he have become if he wasnt limited.. Would he still be involved in the sport?

Think about the possible avenues he could have explored

    1) Promoter- Ali was very charasmatic, Mentally strong, influential and an all around Ballsy man.

    2) Trainer- at 66 he is up there with Manny Steward, could he dispense his knowledge of the fight game to other athletes and be effective, even if he wasnt exactly a technical marvel. Think about if he could have trained Mike Tyson after Cus passing..

    3) Broadcaster or Color Commentator- He was never at a loss for words

    4) Motivational Speaker- The guy could stir you with his storys of being a warrior and gutting out victories in the ring and thriving despite all the civil and racial unrest during his youth and career..

    5) Politician- For the same reasons he could have been a Promoter or a Motivational Speaker

    6) Flat Broke Lonely Recluse- Would he have sqaundered his life and earnings segregating himself and dissapearing into obscurity like other high profile Athletes, Actors etc...

There are so many possibilities and things that could be speculated upon but at the same time I think its a worthy topic that garners consideration.

What are your thoughts and ideas

Im pretty sure he'd have kept fighting into the late 80's if not longer given the green light
He'd deffo be training his daughter in a more hands on style and maybe helped out Frazier Jnr more
End of the day the King could simply walk past someone and make them a better person/fighter.... even now
One of the most important and influential humans in history.

I don't really care what he'd be all I know is he would still have shit that smelled like roses!

Everyone says he's the most important athlete in the history of sports....I highly doubt it added to which indignity they say he was a champion of the Civil Rights movement, yet apparently I am the only one recalling the fact that he used Joe Frazier's and George Foreman's race against them....black brother my ass!

I think everyone is so enamored with Ali's skill in the ring and talking that it doesn't matter that he called members of his own race Uncle Tom's and Gorilla's

Don't get me wrong Ali did great in the ring and he took a solid political stand against an unpopular war but let's NOT portray this guy as some sort of infallible God because he had his faults just like anyone else and those should be recognized as well as his achievements.

Be REAL about your heroes...creating some sort of folktale about them serves no purpose whatsoever

Come off it Lyle.....the guy pretty much single handedly changed the US race wise in the 60's.
Your country was a mess race wise until he made that Vietnam stance and stuck two fingers up to the White house and led the way by example.
One man army imo who had his biggest fights outside the ring and still won by Knockout
I'm a White Londoner and am in awe of Mr Ali still

    BULLSHIT!

He wasn't the only person against the war and to belittle Joe Louis is a fucking shame which is of course what he did.

The views of race were changed by MARTIN LUTHER KING JR. and the black citizens willing to do sit ins and stand up for themselves and the white citizens willing to stand up for their neighbors.

Be in awe of Ali all you want I'm not trying to stop you, I'm just saying he was devisive to his race as well.....how did BLACK fighters Joe Frazier and George Foreman feel being called Uncle Toms by such a "great" man?

George Foreman loves what America did for him....he would have been just a thug instead of a gold medal winner/multiple time heavyweight champion/entreprenure without the help of the Job Corps which got him involved in boxing

I don't remember him calling Foreman a uncle tom, he called him a Belgian I know that

But that does little to set back what he actually did for his race and more importantly his religion imo. Whether he was saying something stupid or saying something intelligent he was bringing the issue to the forefront and that was the big thing. People had long just tried to keep segragration a dirty little secret. Up until the 60's it was never a political issue or anything. Almost the same way race is treated today, nobody really wanted to talk about it. So when you have a guy bringing issues like race, war and religion to the forefront, you can't say he just wasn't important. He was. Was everything he did great? No. Did he say a lot of things that were really fairly despicable? Absolutely. But you can't say he didn't change the landscape.
