Personally, I think it's funny because Tony is just a toy for Arum to play with. It's sad. Tony's probably only gonna make at most 2 million, if that, for the Cotto fight while Cotto makes around 4. If Tony beats Williams, then he gets a million for that fight plus he raises the profile of the Cotto fight and he probably could get parity for the Cotto fight just because he walks in as champion and can negotiate. I don't know what the hell Tony thinks he is gonna make. The pot for Taylor vs Winky was 10 million. The Mayweather Margarito fight only had a pot of 9 million dollars with Floyd making 8 mil and Tony making 1 mil. For god sakes, Shane Mosley only made three million dollars in the second fight with Vargas. And Mosley is a guy whose used to making 6 or 7 million. The elite and popular fighters who aren't named Floyd and Oscar are barely making above three million. Does Tony think he's gonna all of a sudden gonna make 3 million? Does he think that Cotto-Margarito is as big a fight as PBF vs Tony?? Because if he does, he's gonna be disappointed with his check.
Tony has no room to negotiate with no belt. Tony isn't pound for pound, Tony isn't popular with the general public, the boxing public, or even Mexicans, that WBO belt is the only thing that defines Tony and he's underestimating how much he needs it. And he'll HAVE to take what Arum offers him for the Cotto fight because if Tony doesn't like the deal then Arum can just put him on ice while he substitutes Tony with Mosley/Collazo or Hatton or Floyd or Cintron to grab another belt. Arum nor Cotto really need Tony and it's obvious because Arum obviously doesn't care about Tony's activity. Tony isn't making money for Arum anyway. Arum would slice his wrists if Cotto was that inactive because Cotto will be a cashcow and he really cares about Cotto's future, it's obvious. With no belt, Arum doesn't have to keep Tony active. If Tony thinks it's hard getting a fight now, imagine how tough it will be when he's got no belt. No one will fight him. Tony is trying to get ONE payday but it could screw his whole career up. Tony should start thinking about his future and take the Williams fight. If Tony loses, he's got a million dollars, if he wins, then he makes almost double for the Cotto fight. It's a no brainer IMO.
who's is then with no mayweather and hatton there, tony is the longest serving champ and that makes him #1 in my book.Originally Posted by 'The Boxer'

Damn I was right on the money with this one. Rito should have taken the Williams fight before agreeing to fight Cotto. Now that guy is screwed. He thought he was gonna make big money for a Cotto fight and he was WRONG!!! Arum basically screwed him over. Tony has to realize that you have to build up your paychecks, all the big players in boxing didn't just jump from 500K to 8Million in one fight, it takes years to do that. He had a million plus in front of him, but Arum blew him smoke and mirrors, so he agreed to the Cotto fight, but when the negotiations came around, guess what Arum was offering for the Cotto fight, a million plus. Arum planned this shit out, he knew if Tony fought Williams and lost, the Cotto fight was off, and if Tony fought Williams and won, Tony would have a belt and would demand (and deserve) parity and since Cotto was already making 3 million a fight, there might not have been enough money there to give Tony 3 Million and Cotto 3 Million and still make his huge profits. Tony fighting Williams was a lose-lose situation for Arum and Tony's paying for it.Originally Posted by albsur2006
