Default De La Hoya Vs Mosely Fights 1 and 2 thoughts

I recently rewatched their first fight and gave it to Shane 116-112 - I can't believe how much Shame Mosely deteraited in the 3 years between the 2 fights!! The stats said that in fight 1 he landed 239 punches through round 11 and in fight 2 just 114

I actually gave Oscar the first 7 rounds of the second fight and gave Shane 4 of the last 5 - so 116-112 to Oscar

The decision in favour of Mosely was awful imo. Jack Mosely was even saying that Shane couldn't win at the start of the 12th and 'you gotta make him quit'

Also look at the look of complete amazement on Shane's face when he gets the verdict.

Horrible decision, but really enjoyed both fights.

If anybody scored that fight for Mosely I would love to know which rounds you have him

i havent seen first one but 2nd was robbery oscar easily won it i think he outlanded mosley by double here is little fact

oscar delahoya stated at the post-fight press conference that he would file a protest of the fight, using punch stat numbers (among other reasons) as to why he should have won on the judge's scorecards.

    PUNCH STAT NUMBERS De La Hoya total = 221-616 (36%) Mosley total = 127-496 (26%) jabs = 106-296 (36%) jabs = 33-268 (12%) power punches = 115-320 (36%) power punches = 94-228 (41%)

    Reactions

Bob Arum (De La Hoya's promoter): "I've never even seen anything like this in my life!! It wasn't even close!!"

De La Hoya (on the investigation request to be filed): "I'm really going to put my heart into it and the resources I have."

Mosley: "I really don't know what to think about that [investigation]. All I know is that I won the fight, I'm the legitimate champion of the world. I feel like I won a couple of fights that I lost, or won a fight that I lost…what can you do?"

IMO, the Shane Mosley that showed up in the first ODLH fight, could beat anybody in the history of the welterweight division.

Mosley fought a great fight, but I wouldn't get carried away. Oscar didn't fight a very smart fight that night. He just came straight ahead, standing upright. He made it easy for Mosley to counterpunch. Oscar didn't show Mosley any angles or variety. I think Oscar was trying to prove the people wrong who criticized him of "running" against Trinidad, so against Mosley he made a point to do just the opposite.
Mosley was a great fighter in his prime, but he did have some flaws. I think welterweights like Ray Robinson, Ray Leonard, and Pernell Whitaker would've beaten Mosley on that night.

    Saw both fights.

Sat ringside & watched Oscar get robbed on the second go 'round.

He legit lost the first fight.

Even Mosley thought that he had lost the second bout. It was all over his face.

I remember a lot of people coming out and saying Shane won the 2nd fight - glad to see we can score a fight on here

I think Shane won the second fight. ODH was bleeding and bent over from the body shots. You could visibly see he took a beating. Shane looked unscathed. ODH got the worst that night. Mind you Shane was only trying to land power punches and wasn't boxing. He punished ODH and won the fight.

I really can't see how you see it that way

The blood was from a but - but he could've have a face like a catchers mit, it wouldn't change the fact that he was winning rounds.

I remember getting into heaps of arguments on here about that second fight. I didn't score it but I thought it could have went either way.

I just thought that a lot of Oscar's stuff that night was flashy and didn't really do much damage. Whereas down the stretch Shane was really hurting Oscar to the body and head.

Like I say, I'll never understand the people who flat out think Oscar was robbed based purely on punchstat numbers... It was a close fight!!

Remember - this isn't the amateurs. A guy could land a hundred punches in a round and the other guy only 10 - but if those 10 get the guy hurt and in trouble, I'm probably still gonna give the round the guy who landed 10 punches.

Yeah Shane was brilliant that night . Oscra met a prime Shane Mosley and was found out . 1st legit loss IMO . He tried to redeem himslef after the Tito fight where he ran so he thought he'd impose himself on teh smaller man moving up from lightweight . That played right into Shanes handsa and he boxed rings round him . He was much much quicker and Oscar looked plodding in comparrisson . Who'd have thought we'd ever say that about Oscar ?! Shane won by afew rounds and looked unbeatable

Next time they met , Shane was much slower andc it was due to lifting all those weights . He was muscle bound and Oscra had an easier time and a better gameplan . He had the beating of Shane that night but in my scoring he let it slip again late and Mosley took it by about 1 round . Oscar almost had it in the bag at 1 stage but in the 9th he was badly winded by body blows and he same the same mistake that he did against Tito- he coasted the late rounds .

    Both good fights IMO

First Fight 8-4 Mosley. I actually had it 9-3 the first time I watched it but watching it again over the years I gave Oscar one of the toss up rounds for being the aggressor. Mosley whipped his ass all night long. can't believe some people on this forum say it was a razor thin fight.

Second Fight 7-5 for Oscar. It was no where near as exciting as the first fight, Mosley was never the same after the Vernon Forrest headbutt and then the brutal ass whopping.
