I agree with this in theory, but there's no way that Cotto would agree to go below 147, because he doesn't have to. There are more big name fighters at 147 than there are at 140, and therefore Cotto has more options fighting at his natural weight of 147 than Hatton has fighting at his natural weight of 140.
If Hatton wants a big, big fight, he's going to need to come up to 147. If Hatton wants a huge payday, it's going to be either Cotto or Mayweather, and I assume Hatton would rather just fight Cotto, because at least against Cotto he'd have a chance. Against Mayweather, it would just be target practice for Floyd.
