Azumah Nelson was elected to the Hall of Fame in the first year that he was eligible. He was also ranked by Ring Magazine as the 65th best fighter of the last 80 years, ahead of such fighters as Thomas Hearns, Ricardo Lopez, Mike Tyson, and Oscar De La Hoya.
