She just asked me if I thought it would be OK for her to start boxing? I am definitely leaning towards it but you know...I would like to be the one coaching her....Thoughts?

It feels good to be back home.
Now i dont have too much life experiance my man... But this certainly sounds like a great opportunity..
I mean for one.. She's interested in boxing.. Which would be great for you to bond with her..
Secondly.. If she really takes up boxing and gets into it then its a great way to go about her life..
There should be more young people undertaking boxing ..It makes it more then likely that the discipline she learns in boxing will carry to her social life and working life and she'll make the right decisions about whether to smoke or whether she wants to drink or do drugs.. Most of the lads i know at the gym are too dedicated to boxing and used to being healthy to have ever considered drugs or cugarettes..
If it were me.. Then i'd jump at the chance.. But i dont know your daughter and i dont have the same life experiance as you...
How old is she can i ask?
Peace

Talking to a guy today on the social aspects of Boxing. It appears that Sweden did a survey on street crime since they banned Boxing. The figures were alarming so theyve reintroduced it, good bit of news.

Congrats and I say you go for it if you can find the time to be there for her and with her then by all means....
Tito_BHB put it best.....![]()
That's all well and good if that's what you want. Sounds like it could be fun.....quality time with the daughter....good deal
That being said if I had a daughter I wouldn't let her box, play football, play ice hockey or any "guy sports"....of course I say that now but kids change a lot of previously held views
she is 14 and I think she is at the age to go with her on this...You are right when it comes to the drugs and trouble...so we'll see....usually you know if it's something you want to do after a few crakes upside the head.....Luckily I have coached Amature Boxing for the better part of the last 3 years and would love to get the chance to coach my child....Originally Posted by Tito_BHB

And old enough to have already built up some determination and a strong will if its really what she wants to do...
I recon this could truely be a great opportunity for the both of you..Good luck though no matter your decision ..

i can see no reasons why not to teach her a few things mate. learning the sport of boxing is quality character building most of the time. she'll learn discipline, composure, the importance of good health and learning how to throw some shots and maybe put someone on their arse if needs be can never be a bad thing![]()
If she wants to box just to learn it and stay in shape. Than yeah, let her. But if she wants to actually box to compete than I say no. 14 is a pretty advance age to learn boxing from scratch (is she learning from scratch?). Most kids (including girls) first start learning at a younger age. I first learned at 7. I seen some start at 5. So she'll be at a disadvantage experience wise. Which will lead to a good amount of ass kickings. Which I doubt you'll want your daughter going through. Anyway, that's just my opinion. Good luck in whatever you decide.Originally Posted by THE Bigragu

I don't think taking boxing as a career is a good move for anybody that can become successful through education... They destroy their brain. I love boxing, and I love doing it, but following to a high level is dangerous for even the best fighters, and also the guys who you never see get hit like Roy Jones Jr. and Floyd Mayweather Jr. sure as hell got their licks as kids when their brain was developing most... Its good to take it to a certain extent for anyone, but beyond that its extremely dangerous.
As a former amat boxer, I can say that boxing/training instills discipline and work ethic, builds character, and all of that good stuff. Messing around at the gym a little might be good for her.
As a former amat boxer I can also say that I would not want any of my loved ones actually fighting.
It's like Rocky said, "boxing is a racket where you're almost guaranteed to end up a bum".
Also, I hate to sound sexist, but I do believe that my 6'3". 225 pound frame is way more capable of taking a beating than any chick. And Clint Eastwood movies aside, I do think brain injuries are more common in women's boxing.
