I'm not saying he's a bad person. But he needs to be protected from himself. In boxing you can and will get hurt. He doesn't have a bunch of KO's in those losses? Hey.. neither did Gerry Quarry.
If he's going in looking to cover up, not get hurt and just waiting for a safe time and place to lay down. Than thats a farse, and a discredit to the sport and all the guys who battle for every W on their record!
Hey it's just my opinion.
I wouldn't be able to justify putting a guy with that record on any card I was involved with. And what does it say, about what you think about your fighter? "ya we found a guy for ya to test yourself against". You should be able to "squeak" out a gutsy win against him...after all 276 other guys did!
Disgraceful!
I hate to use the "you don't know boxing" line but in this instance it is warranted. Your lacking a basic understanding of how lower level boxing works. As Yoitsdan said, boxing needs opponents, it needs people like Strickland. He and Peter Buckley stick out like sore thumbs with their resumes and fair play to them for it. They are the only two I can think of off my head with records like that and there is a reason for it, they are really good at what they do.
They don't get hit a lot, they don't get hurt, they go the distance and show some young upstart a trick or two along the way.
For what its worth your not the first person to post Strickland or Buckley's record and look in horror.
Check out Buckleys record, you will see many many well known names all in the infancy of their careers http://www.boxrec.com/boxer_display.php?boxer_id=3372
When God said to the both of us "Which one of you wants to be Sugar Ray?" I guess I didnt raise my hand fast enough
