I don't see what's so laugable about a world champion calling out another one in the division... What is this BS?? Like he shouldn't be able to make a sound about Hatton because he's so inferior to anyone Ricky has been fighting recently?? PLEASE. Urango, and now looks like N'dou(who Witter beat ), are Hatton's first 2 opponents since returning to 140.. Witter is way better than either of them at this stage and would have been a far better and bigger affair. It's laughable to think that Hatton couldn't have fought him instead of either one of those guys in terms of what it would do for his profile. People get so obsessed with the fact that he's supposedly still trying to conquer America.. Well, Urango and N'dou aren't American, nor are they known entitys in the states, at least no more than Witter. Yes Castillo is a higher profile fight, that's obvious.. But now it looks like Ricky isn't even pursuing that bout, at least no until some after the summer or some BS. I don't think anyone here could say truthfully that Witter wouldn't have been a much better opponent then anyone he has ever fought except KT(at least at 140), and yet people laugh it up when he want's to fight him and praise Hatton for not giving him the time of day. How logical.

Believe me Witter would not beat Luis Collazo. I'm not sure he would beat Juan Urango to be honest.
He really isn't that good. He has ok power and he's awkward and his reflexes are ok. Don't think his chin has really been tested and he would fold against any decent fighter who applies pressure. You need to do more than Scrape a win against Colin Lynes and Andreas Kotelnik to be labelled as the biggest threat to Ricky Hatton at 140. He needs to show more than a big mouth to make it a super fight.

No, maybe Witter wouldn't beat COllazo, but neither would Hatton again at 147, imo.. As far as Urango, if you really think Witter couldn't beat him I have to question you a little bit. Did you ever see Urango lose to Ben Rabah?? Rabah fights a bit like Witter, and Jr. has the perfect style to beat Urango, Juan couldn't even do anything against Hatton when Ricky didn't take a step back, but he is even far worse fighting guys that can fight off the back foot or use good movement. Also I don't know who said Hatton vs Urango was close, boring yes, but not close. Urango won 1 round, and the last 4 may as well not have happened therre was so much clinching. So I guess Witter isn't the only one who's faded late in fights.. But as far as this goes, I just don't see why he doesn't deserve a shot at Hatton, or why Ricky couldn't have fought him say instead of Urango.. He does have the WBC belt and he beat a better fighter for it than Urango did for his belt. Also I realize he slipped a bit over the last 6 against N'dou, but the fact that he still won a UD while basically giving away 4 or 5 rounds(or maybe tiring, Ill give you that) just shows that he really did handle N'dou well early on. Lovemore is a tough SOB, and though Mitchell and Cotto beat him I don't think either of them ever dropped him or had him in any trouble like Witter did early. Anyways, it basically comes down to if Hatton is going to fight Castillo in June, fine.. If not, I think he should give Witter this fight, and many would agree I'll bet. At least rather than he fight N'dou...

Yeh good posting. I do agree with ya that a fight with Witter should happen but not at the expense of a fight with Castillo. Thing is Witer has made his name off the back of slating Hatton at every oppurtunity. He's never done anything in the ring to justify his big mouth. I didn't agree with Hatton fighting Urango so maybe a Witter fight should have happened there tho. I think the oppurtunity has gone.

The oppourtunity is most likely gone for sure, If Hatton was remotely interested in fighting Witter I think he would have tried to take his WBC title instead of fighting Urango on his return to 140. But, I just don't like the way alot of people slate Witter for simply wanting to fight Hatton.. It's ridiculous. He has a world championship belt, and is really the only other recognized title holder at jr. welter right now.. Im seriously drawing a blank as to who besides he or Hatton even hold titles.. Witter does need to try and do something else assming Rick doesn't want the fight soon though. I thought there was a decent chance he could have fought Corrales on the Hatton Castillo undercard, there was talk of that.. It's slim pickings for either man at the moment though.. 140 isn't exactly as stacked as it was a year ago... Besides Castillo, what else could Hatton do that would be a bigger fight than Witter, without moving up to welter??

I think a big part of the reason Ricky doesnt want to fight Witter is that Ricky is a gentleman who doesnt slag off any boxer, rather admires the talent in every opponent. Witter has been very offensive and rude, and so Ricky doesnt want him to get any money - simple as that. I know you will say well Maywaether has been rude also, well Mayweather brings more to the table than Witter LOL (by a million miles) so I guess Ricky feels he can overlook the shortcomings in his case!

I mean I have time for both of these guys, its not often in this sport where a yorkshireman is the WBC champ and a mancunian is the IBF & Linear champion, and they should fight, but face facts, Hatton's the success story, the exciting undefeated one, Junior Witter has spent most of his career fighting in tiny venues in the middle of nowhere. Hatton is kid dynamite, all-action throwing punches constantly in-yer-face Hatton. Witter is the awkward and skilful guy who gives people nightmares but doesn't look good. Who do you think the negotiating power is gonna lie with in that fight? Hatton is a major international name now, Witter's made progress over the last few years but he's been left standing behind what Ricky Hatton's accomplished.

Besides, I still think there's 3 or so years before its too late for this fight to happen, Witter would be prepared to fight him at 36 coz lets face it he's desperate, Hatton might want to shut this boy up before he retires and do him at 32. Are those ages right btw? There's plenty of time for this fight to come I think. So don't panic.

Hatton needs to fight a few of the big name US fighters before he does anything. I'm talking Miguel Cotto, Floyd Mayweather, Shane Mosley/Luis Collazo, Antonio Margarito, someone who's gonna get him respect. If he beats Castillo and then goes on an fights Floyd Mayweather, win or lose, the Junior Witter fight can happen. 2 fights, 12 months from now.

In the meantime Witter would do himself many favours by defending his title against someone good in the WBC rankings. Dont let this boy feast on Easten European no-bodies, make him work for his place. In those 12 months while Ricky's fighting Castillo and Mayweather, Witter can defend against guys like Herman Ngoudjo, Vivian Harris, Juan Lazcano, Demetrius Hopkins and earn some respect over in America so this fight can happen.

The biggest obstacle to this fight is that since beating Kostya Tsyzu, Ricky Hatton is a world-wide deal. Witter - Hatton would be a big fight in the UK, but it'd be a flop for the US networks because Witter has no name amongst US boxing fans. If he can sort that out, and to be fair beating N'Dou and Corley has helped, then the fight can happen.

And for the record I think Ricky Hatton brings too much aggression into the fight for Witter to deal with. Witter is sometimes lazy in the ring, Hatton does let people settle for even a second. Ricky is also a very good boxer, watch the first 5 rounds of Hatton - Urango for proof, so dont be fooled into thinking Witter could ease past him with pure boxing coz thats not Ricky's weakness. It'd be an interesting fight but I'd bet money on Hatton winning.

Yeh 140 is nowhere near what it was about 12-18 month ago. No Cotto, Mayweather, Gatti or Tszyu. There's nothing wrong with a world champion calling out another world champion but up until this point Witter has never had a case for fighting Hatton. It's been about as legitimate as somebody like Kermit Cintron calling out Floyd Mayweather if you get what i mean. IMO Hatton should stay at 140 because 147 guys are to big for him. Far too big maybe with the exception of Mayweather. So at 140 you basically do only have Castillo who is anywhere near pound for pound worthy. So Witter should now be considered as well as maybe Corrales if he dunt go to 147. Maybe the winner of Lazcano vs Harris but even them guys would be a step back. So to conclude from me, Witter should now be a viable option for Hatton but i can understand his reasons for not wanting to give him the oppurtunity.

Over half the crowd each time was Brit's who made the trip over anyways, you think that the total interest wouldn't increase if it was a Hatton Witter fight? Besides that it's all up to HBO, if it's a unification fight televised people will watch it...

Well yeah that's what I had heard but I think recently Corrales announced he was going straight up to 147(stupid move), so I guess it won't. I don't know if Witter will have to fight the Lazcano Harris winner or not.. Personally I think he should fight Herman Ngoudjou, who is still the #2 ranked WBC fighhter I believe... But I guess that's more just me wanting to see him beat a good young fighter then anything else. Is the Harris lazcano fight an eliminatoir for Witters belt?? I think really the only important thing Witter needs to focus on is getting a fight in the states on HBO. If he could fight the winner of that match on a televised undercard it would make it infinitely more likely that Hatton would fight him. Assuming he could impress I guess..
