Default How the fwock did he get a belt????

Going through the list of World Champions try and name 5 (or more if you like) fighters through-out the weight divisions who some how have a version of one of the four major world titles.....but in reality are nowhere near world class.

    Oh and give a reason

    I'll start......

1: Souleymane M'baye - how did it happen?? How do two fighters like Raul balbi and M'baye get to fight an eliminater??

2: Junior Witter - One minute he's sinking without trace against world class operators such as Lovemore N'Dou, Colin Lynes and Andres Kotelnik.......the next he's negotiating a 12 round stand off for the wbc title.

3: Enzo Maccarinelli - Smacks Mark Hobson over the back of the head and KO's him. Felt sorry for Hobbo that night. This aint a diss on Maccarinelli but beating Hobson shouldn't make you a world champion.

4: Virgil Hill - he's 42 for fooks sake. And he hasn't fought for over a year and only fought twice since 2003.

5: Nikolay Valuev - I can't even be beothered to begin explaining why he isn't world class. Instead i'll just mention.....Larry Donald and Jon Ruiz

Sorry had to modify it, it didn't make sense.....probly still doesn't

Come one man....if you're having a go at Nikolai Valuev, then you got to put Shannon Briggs even further up that list, the man's an embarrassment of a HW champion.

To me Virgil Hill is a great fighter ! He have one of the best jabs in the game of boxing ! Hill is one of only a handful of guys that can win a fight solely on his jab ! Virgil has high marks in my book from when he walked in there a several years back and knocked heavily favored champion Fabrice Tiozzo out in R 1 to win the title , Hell he had Fabrice Tiozzo down at least 2 time in the first round before knocking him out . and Virgil a monstrous underdog in that fight , Fighters with an excellent jab can last a long long time in the game of boxing !

At any point in your guys lives have you boxed or know anything about it. It's the public and the politics of boxing that gives it a black eye not the fighters. They just wake up and train so they can fight their hearts out for us on a daily basis. Hardly their fault the many organizations of today rank them so high or the fact that the promoters protect them in such ways as to make more cash in the long run. Get use to it. Don't trash what you don't have the talent to do yourself.

You know, your right. I think sometimes we as fans (including me) put aisde the fact that for the most part it's the orga. and promoters who for the most part say; Who, what, when, where.... and for how much.....

But wouldn't you also agree, with the fact that as a fighter you should demand that you have some type of saying. I mean after all it is your life in that ring so shouldn't you make it a priority that you have some control?

Yeah, but at least he put up a decent showing against Lewis. I think that Briggs is a helluva lot better than Valuev.

Hill ? I don't think he is going too anytime soon ?

Tiozzo retired as champion, He was frustrated with the politics , and he was on top.. that’s always a good time to walk away, when your on top advanced in age and yet you feel the ground starting to give way !

If we are going to see an unification, then if these two match up then whoever wins would be the least deserving unified champ in my opinion, though someone would have to walk away victorious, and I see Valuev being that man.

Welcome on board Trillian, how's life as an intergalactic vixen? I'm not having a crack at boxers, and respect even the journeymen who provide the foundation for fighters to become great, but I think it's fair to have a look at the way that some fighters just catch a lucky break and end up worlld champions. The problem for them then is that they do fight fighters who are out of their league and could get hurt. CC and welcome to the best board on the net.

5: Nikolay Valuev - I can't even be beothered to begin explaining why he isn't world class. Instead i'll just mention.....Larry Donald and Jon Ruiz

How did Big Nick get a belt? By beating 46 guys in a row!!! That's how!
And then beating the last guy who had the belt! How did HE get it? in a pack of bubble gum?

Lets look and see (the vodka's kicking in!) how the mutant headed giant got the belt
Please try and follow along..I'll go slow....!
First (at 37-0!) he beat Richard Bango who was 16-0 for the
    WBA INTER-CONTINENTAL HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP BELT
THEN! defended it 5 times!!! before he got a shot at Ruiz for the WBA world belt
How did Ruiz get the belt? He won it after a win over HASIM RAHMAN
Ruiz then succesfully defended the WBA belt against Fres Oquendo, Andrew Golota,
And James Toney! ( I know a n/c) before he met Valuev.
    Since the win over Ruiz
Valuev has since defended the Belt 3 times!
I know the wba Inter-continental belt isn't all that, and really the wba hw belt isn't all,all that either.
BUT you didn't question the legitamacy or value of the belt itself, just HOW did he get it.
SO to answer your question....How did Valuev get the WBA HW belt?
    HE F#CKIN EARNED IT!
Just remember you dissed the Big Guy when he smashes Marciano's record! And becomes the most recognised Athlete on the Planet Earth.
    It will happen! (maybe)

As for the Briggs comment, based on his lethargic win that gothim the belt only a fool would disagree..
BUT he may be a darkhorse in the HW div.
    A big puncher,
    good defensive skill,
    really good counter puncher,
    really really fast hands,
    really,really,really bad hairdo

Id bet money on him in any long odds fight. like +280+

If he smashes marciano's record without fighting either of the klits, preferably vitali, peter and some other big names it ain't gonna mean jackshit to me or for that matter to most boxing fans! Once again statistics can be deceiving.

From what I know about Virgil he is having trouuble getting fights....The WBA is giving him the shaft big....Main reason why he has fought so little as of late...He is tiring of the bulls***..

Briggs has enough stamina for 1 round 'where hes actually throwing punches', I take it you didn't see the entire fight vs. Serguei?
The only thing I agree with is the hairdoo...

I think ANY of the top 10 heavys beats Briggs, simply on the fact that they would be busier throughout the fight.
