Rommel did his damage before Patton took over the North African Campaign due to the loss at Kassirine Pass....I guess Monty got the oppertunity to fight Rommel directly but Monty was a bastard....and then Rommel fought the Russians only to commit suicide later.

Patton did his best through Italy and during the Battle of the Bulge....which was vs Von Rumstedt and Model.
