Default Dean Francis - Commonwealth Champ

It took him just 1min 47secs to do it - Dean Francis took the Commonwealth light heavyweight title in Bristol on Friday night when he knocked out Ovill McKenzie in the first round. What an achievement after all his injury problems. Who would bet against him eventually getting the world title shot he has always dreamed of ? Looks like a British title attempt may be next. Watch the KO at http://www.sportuk.tv

    Cheers

Nice spot mate, that was a peach of a left that put him down the first time, and it was a top flurry which finished McKenzie, who, it is now clear, was a guy who was a bit lucky to grab the title, and to get sparked so early shows that. Coming in with a 13-6 record is not a Commonwealth champion's record, and Francis didn't even have the chance to look good, cause it was over so quick.

At least Ovill gets to tell the grandkids that he was the Commonwealth champion, and you can't buy those memories, even if you are a jounreyman made good.

CC Bro...does this site carry a lot of boxing, or is it just Francis?

Not just Francis - there are quite a few others on there including Jane Couch and watch out for young Danny Butler former junior ABA champion who is making good progress as a professional. Take a look at the boxing index and you will see them listed.

Not sure how far Francis can go cause of the arm....but it's a shame to think what could have been with him especially considering Starie went on to fight Calzaghe and Ottke

Indeed, I think there are a fair few British fighters that come in ahead of Francis though, simply because of youth, but he's got that title and a couple of succesful defences might push him up the European rankings enough to get a shot at their title, but world ambitions, despite the announcer's enthusiasm, would be a bit beyond him I think.

That's what i think too, domestically he'll be a face but i even doubt he can achieve European status to be honest.

Well, what I was suggesting was that a few defences would give him a shot, and that we would see what he has got left in the tank, rather than saying he would be a player on the Euro scene.
