He's going to need to do A LOT

    Castillo
    Corrales
    Witter
a couple others and cap it off with Cotto at 147

I'd like to see him fight Gatti as it would just be a hell of a fight

I'd say those would be good enough to consider him for all-time great status, nothing like top 10 or anything but it would place him well

So Gatti (who is beyond shot) is good enough for Hatton to beat but not Mayweather. Corrales is shot. No where near the prime Corrales Mayweather beat. Beating him now, means nothing. Castillo he's fighting. At least for now he is. Cotto is in his prime. So a fight with him will be ideal. As for Witter, didn't you post in a previous thread who was he? He's a nobody. So why fight him? It seems the standard for Hatton to achieve all time great status is a lot easier than Mayweather's.

I don't necessarily agree with this, but I can see the logic behind the argument and I can respect those who want to see him step up his level of competition.

My question for you is: Who does he have to fight to get you to stop criticizing his list of opponents?
For example, if he beats DLH and then fights Mosley, will that be enough? If it's DLH and then Hatton, will that be enough? Does it need to be DLH, Mosley, and Tony "Overrated" Margarito ??
Will he not have your respect until he fights Cotto?

Tell me exactly who he needs to fight to be able to say he's fought the best out there. Then I'll know where you guys are coming from.

Don't answer, "Floyd needs to start taking risks and fighting hungry young fighters." That doesn't tell me anything. Tell me exactly WHO he needs to fight, and WHEN, in order for him to earn your respect.
Beating oscar should be enough for anybody. BUT he is still young and shows no sign of age catching him up, i would like to see him fight mosley, cotto and/or hatton... i think he beats cotto and hatton without to much trouble, but as one fight i alays think back to when thinking about "what ifs" ali showed us in the rumble of the jungle, great fighters can always pull one out of their hat, thats whay i think at floyds young age it is esential not to retire with question marks.

I know people will talk about mayagro, but unless he dos something soon fuck him. Mosley at WW and hatton and maybe cotto and i think floyd can retire no questions asked.

    1. Get hurt by Dela Hoya but fights through adversity and wins convincingly.
    2. Drops down to 147 and hands Mosley his ass!
    3. Drops further down to 140 and stops Hatton after he stops Castillo & Witter claiming the WBC.
    4. Move back up to 147 and clean up Cotto after he stops Judah and unifies with Williams.

    or

TKO's Oscar and then moves up to beat Winky after he beats Hopkins. That right there would define greatness in 2 fights.

Why does Floyd have to stand and trade with Oscar to prove he's "great"?

But isn't "not" getting tested by very good fighters a measure for greatness as well Fighting very good fighters, even great fighters and winning easily..isn't that a testament to greatness as well? If not more so?

agreed i think dominating a great fighter is more impressive than standing and trading with big puncher when you dont need to

Honestly...I think that this is one of the most sorry thing that a boxing fan can do. In the end...it all boils down to something bigger than his opposition. Most people hate on Floyd for his attitude or that he humiliated one of their heroes. Floyd's level of competition is fine...it's actually pretty good & when you compare it to most opposing fight fan's fighters...it's generally stellar.

Most of the arguements & most of the critiques come from either Cotto, Hatton, or Margarito fans...& if you compare their opposition & or their losses or matches on shakey ground...it's obvious that it boils down to hate.

I have always disagreed with the criticism of his opposition. He beat some of the better fighters in the weight classes on his way up & now that he's fighting Oscar...their is no logic in the criticism.

It will never be enough. If he beats Oscar (...and, me, being a fan of both fighters...I go back & forth on the outcome!) everyone will piss & moan & rip into Oscar. If he loses to Oscar then everyone will always say that Floyd was a joke...& folks...that's just horse shit.

Most people loathe Floyd for his attitude & bravado...& I can understand that...but true fans recognize him for what he is & that is a ring genius. I'd like to see him beat Hatton & Margarito just to close the book on that mess.

Honestly...I think that Mosley is a bad fight for Floyd...I think that Oscar is too. Floyd's waaaaaaaaaay to far outside of his weight limit, IWO. I think that it will be his downfall.

I'd love to see him fight Cotto...but then again...I wouldn't. The problem with being a boxing fan is that if you truly love the sport...you can put aside your bias & recognize fighters around the board. I have waaaaaaaay too many favorites & there are way to many fighters that I have actually become attatched to.

Cotto, Oscar, Floyd, Winky, Hopkins, & many others to name a few have lumped into that category...hence the reason some of these fights getting harder & harder for me to watch.

Personally...I think that Cotto would be an easy puzzle for Floyd to solve...but Cotto has power in both hands & that could change the fight in just a milli-second. Thing is...I want to see Floyd remain undefeated & the same goes for Cotto.

Floyd will always have my respect...win, lose, or draw. Same goes for Cotto & all of the above.

After Oscar...honestly...there's not really anyone out there that Floyd will NEED to fight.

Depending on how the Oscar fight comes out & if Floyd is going to decide to stay @ 147...then depending on the outcome of the Cotto Judah match...I'd say he should probably fight Cotto...but there won't be nearly as much cash in that match as there is in Oscar...there again...I still say that Floyd will join the GBP program & then reach for the stars.

Hell...maybe there's a case for Mosley...but if he can blaze through Oscar then there's not really anything out there that I believe could motivate Floyd that much.

As I said above... I'd like to see him beat Hatton & Margarito just to close the book on that mess...but he doesn't need to fight either of them...I used to think that he should fight Hatton...but Hatton seems to be falling off...as does Margarito, but I aint a fan of either...so my opinion on that matter should be discounted.

People forget that he's taken risks...that's where the majority of these critics lose the arguement before they really even get started. Floyd humiliated Corrales, Castillo, Chavez, & Judah...all of those were risky opponents...even though I don't like any of those fighters...they all were knockout heavy combatants...but I guess that aint taking risks.

Watch someone argue that those were all cherry picked matches.

    Good thread ThweetPea.

Ya I agree. I see no sense in fighting Hatton period unless Hatton moves up in weight again which I don't see him doing.

Stop picking and choosing opponents, and clean up 147 which is in one of the best states it has ever been. Have more of a warrior mentality when choosing opponents instead of thinking what has he done, what has he done etc etc. People can go on about Floyds level of opposition being brilliant etc but it's NOT ATG opposition. Floyd fans ALWAYS forget,Floyd is going to be measured in a harsher way because of his mouth(comparing himself favourably to legends) and because of his status as P4P number 1. It's simple as that.

You can criticize Hatton,Margarito,Mosley and Cotto all you want but I never hear them saying who has so and so fought. I never hear them saying they are the best ever and alllll have their merits as potential Floyd opponents. They are all dangerous and threats.

If guys never gave other dangermen and threats a chance to prove themselves, boxing would become stagnant. No one would know who Winky was if Shane didnt fight him. Shane didn't ask who has Winky fought etc etc.
