I think Vitali and the WBC were in bed together on this along time ago. I think they called the Toney rematch to give Vitali more time to announce his return. Otherwise I think they'd tell Vitali to step back a be patient.

So your telling me, they gave Vitali klitschko Champion Emeritus status almost 3 years ago, so that when samuel peter would want to fight oleg maskaev for the crown, they could call back vitali klitschko and interupt samuel peters domination of the heavyweight division?

I dont think they knew he was coming back at the time, but I am sure after Maskaev won the belt and VKlit let them know he was interested in coming back they started scrambling to make sure VKlit would have a shot at the title asap. When was the last time any of the belt organizations ordered a rematch on an elimation bout?? I cant think of one before Toney/Peter. I am sure at that time they had some idea that VKlit was at the very least considering a comeback. Like I said before it all just stinks.
