Actually, I was being a bit harsh there anyway. If there is a demand for teachers and not enough qualified teachers to do the job then they've got to get what they can I suppose. Does Thailand have a lot of native instructors? Ive never been to Thailand, and would never consider working in most South East Asian countries. The money just isnt good enough.

I live and work in Korea and the conditions are somewhat stricter regarding illegal teaching. Many illegal workers are deported every month. Usually for not having VISA's or being caught doing private lessons. Strangely most of them herald from Canada.

You are right, Vietnam is developing but is still some way from being what I would class as a developed nation. Incomes are too low over there to atract a great deal of qualified teachers. Much like China. Much of that should change over the coming decade as they seek more business English. What kind of school are you working at?
