He should of had some career defining fights by now!! You cant wait till the last 3 fights of your career to try to have career defining fights, how does that define your career if it is at the end of it. He should have been having them since he first won a title.
against whom? and explain why they didn't happen, or why its calzaghes fault?
Anybody that was around SMW at the time. You cant tell me he sought out the best out there to fight! He has barely fought outside his home. The only places he has fought after he won the belt(s) is England, Whales, Scotland (once), and Germany (once). He hasnt exactly traveled the globe looking for competition.

No, its not all his fault that he hasnt fought anybody. But I hope that he has some pull with his promoter about who he faces. There is all of this talk about he WAS suppose to face Bhop, RJJ, but the fights didnt happen for one reason or another. I cant imagine that Bhop and RJJ were the only name fighters around SMW that he could have faced. I just dont think Joe C. tried hard enough to get the fights he should of had.
Now you know how much I hate to argue. Can't stand it in fact. BUUUUUUT...whales are animals, Wales is a country, or a principality, depending on who you talk to.

As for RJJ, there was talk of the fight, but the promoters could never get near to a deal to make it happen. B Hop has only really taken an interest in fighting Joe C once hesigned the deal with one of the American broadcasters and Glen Johnson has just fallen through because of injuries to Joe's fists of glass.

While I want to see him in big fights, he shouldn't have to handicap himself overly to fight the big ones, like going to Denmark to fight Kessler, or to Germany to fight Stieglitz, he's the fwocking champion for god's sake. Kessler's team have never offered nor spoken about a fight anywhere except Denmark, which would be like going into a huge fight with a 4 round handicap, nobody would do that.

Isnt that the same as fighting Joe in Whales or England maybe not as bad a handicap (3 rounds instead of 4 behind) but still a handicap nonetheless. My biggest beef with Joe is that his camp kept talking about making big fights after his Lacy triumph, but all that they have come up with is Bika and Manfredo?? ?? ?? ?? ?? ?? ?? Maybe I am not as up to date on my SMW division but from my point of view those arent exactly HOF candidates. It is sad because Joe is a worthy champion but we will never fully know how great he could have been.

Kessler to my knowledge May have never actually made offers for a fight in the UK (not so sure as they've been trying to get Calzaghe talking since before Kess became a champ).
What they HAVE done is repeatedly ask for Warren to make them an offer for a UK fight. Just after making the 3.5mill$ offer they went public saying that in reality they knew Calzaghe wouldn't take it - but that it was primarily intended at provoking Warren into making an offer for a UK fight. So to say that Kessler's ppl have never spoken of a fight outside Denmark is just plain wrong.

man these sort of posts are frustrating... you post question his opposition up untill now, yet you can't name anyone with good reason who he hasn't fought (also he went to denmark to fight on the tyson undercard to try and build his profile in the states..) Hopkins price him self out for a fight in the us, Ottke made it clear he wasn't going to fight calzaghe even in germany up untill now i have yet to see anyone on this board who have been able to show some source that calzaghe has been awkward and tried to avoide big fights, i say now coz there are quotes and sources coming from the kessler talk.

I'm not saying that Joe should fight him in WALES or England, why not fight him in the USA or somewhere in Europe. There were reasons for both of the Bika and Manfredo fights, at least in the minds of the Calzaghe camp. Bika was meant to be a warm-up after a long lay-off with injury, that turned out to be a fair war after Calzaghe decided to out-macho him, and proved to be a difficult fight. Manfredo was picked simply because he is a name among the US boxing crowd, famous among more than just boxing aficionados, because of his appearance on the Contender. Ultimately, the true American boxing fans (as we have many of on here) aren't the main part of the boxing audience...it is just people who have an interest but no great knowledge about the sport, and are attracted by the names that were on the contender. Now while my faith may be misplaced, the next fight after Manfredo will be big, or i'll eat my hat.

I dont like this arguement because there is no hard answer to anything about it. Fights were made then cancelled for one reason or another. I dont know why these fights were not rescheduled or attempted to be made again. But the only think I can think of would be that Joe didnt want to leave the SMW division. If he would have gone up there would have been more possibilities for big name fights, but since he didnt we can only speculate. I am starting to think that maybe Joe never tried to avoid big fights, but never attempted to get one except for the ones that fell through for whatever reasons. I believe that RJJ and Bhop were the only fights that he seriously was after. To be honest there is not a good answer to this question, as much as we would like to bash him for his competition there wasnt any at SMW. I think there is now in Kessler, but for whatever reason the fight wont be made. I think that a potential unification bout with Kessler would do more for Joe if he won than a win offer Bhop or RJJ at this point in their careers.
