    Default Mitchell v Khan?

    http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/tm_hea...name_page.html

    KEVIN MITCHELL PROFILE

    Date of Birth: 28.10.84
    Record: 22-0 (15)
    Hometown: Dagenham
    Division: Super-featherweight
    Titles Won: IBF inter-continental super-featherweight

Mitchell turned pro amid much fanfare and media hype - with promoter Frank Warren steadfastly claiming he will one day become the biggest draw in London since Nigel Benn.

Given the recent emergence of one Amir Khan, the 'Dagenham Destroyer' has been forced to take a back seat, but intends to use 2006 to launch himself fully into the public consciousness.

He has plenty to say for one so young, but reassuringly it seems he has the ability to match his boasts.

As an amateur Mitchell enjoyed rare success, winning four schoolboy titles, a junior ABA title and even capturing a silver medal at the 2002 junior Olympics.

His big ambition as a teenager was to win a senior ABA title, and once he accomplished that feat in 2003, he felt he was ready to 'turn over'.

He enjoyed home advantage for his first three fights, thrilling the locals at the Goresbrook Sports Centre in his native Dagenham.

Old hand Stevie Quinn was put away quite sensationally after just a minute and a half in his first paid outing, and foreign import Csaba Ladanyzi was also sparked in the first.

Vlado Varhegi fared a bit better, but he was still rendered immobile inside three rounds as the Mitchell Express gathered momentum.

Another KO win followed, before a game Christian Laight became the first man to hear the final bell against this big-punching teen prodigy.

Mitchell continued to rack up the wins in 2004, before deciding to switch trainers and leaving Johnny Eames' TKO gym to link up with Babatunde Ajayi.

Despite the change of scenery (and becoming a father for the first time), Mitchell continued to impress, showing against the likes of Henry Janes and Frederic Bonifai that he had more to his game than just raw power.

Having now fully recovered following a hand operation, Micthell will be looking to box for titles in the coming year.

It looks like he will travel down the time-honoured route of Central Area, British Masters and British before surveying the world scene, but the kid with dynamite in his hands will do well to remember the old adage that: 'from little acorns grow mighty oaks'.

Hes pretty good but I doubt he'd stand a chance against Khan and as much as people want to hype this up I doubt its a fight that will happen any time soon. Other than for the payday theres no reason for Mitchell to move up and fight Khan, its all talk in my opinion.

Why would this fight happen? Linking Mitchell with Khan is good publicity. He has two potential "stars" on his hands.

The only way it'll ever happen is if one of them unexpectedly slips up somewhere along the line.

Plus theyre not even in he same weight class, Mitchell is a super feather now with no need to move up, as far as I know he doesnt have any difficulties making weight. By the time he is ready to move up naturally Khan may well be ready for a more permanent move into the light welters.

fantastic matchup. would be amazed if it happens. khan a lightweight and mitchell a superfeather. i cant see either changing weights at the moment. im beginning to be impressed more and more by mitchell every time I see him fight and its likely he will go down a different route to khan.

Highly unlikely it would happen, but it would be a great bout. Mitchell would win in my opinion. I can't believe how overhyped Khan is. Remember when Audley Harrison won gold and people hyped him up so much. After a couple of pro fights people realised he would struggle. I've seen a lot of deficiences in Khan's defence so far, although I'm not saying he can't iron them out, that's what gym time is for. I just feel that talks of titles and the amount of publicity he gets is over-the-top. And with all the hype, it increases the size of scalp someone could have if they beat him. He's just lucky that Warren is babying him with handpicked opponents who have no punch-power, this is not good for the lad though cause he will eventually be found out.
And by the way, I really hope he proves me wrong, Britain needs all the World Champions we can get! As for Mitchell, don't think an European title shot is too far down the line for him.

taking in to account the different weights and the fact they are money makers for FW i cant see this happening anythime soon.

If they were to fight i think it would be very close, Khan is phenomonly quick and hits hard but in all honesty he hasnt been properly tested against a decent strong fighter/puncher who was legitimately the same weight. Fair dos he is so good that no one has really stood a chance but fighting overmatched opponents all the time will do nothing but boost his confidence which will only take him so far. I think his next fight against Stefy Bull looks a decent match up from what i've read but i dont really know much about him apart from his record i'm going to have to look up some info about him.

Khan's defence is still pretty shoddy he's lucky he's in a different class to his opponents, against Mitchell he'll find out what it's like to be whacked. mitchell is a lot more controlled than Khan he takes his time to make his shots count, i'm not totally convinced by his power though. I think he takes a decent shot and he would not be worried about facing Khan.

If it happens it'd be a fight i'd love to see

It will never ever ever happen.

Warren has little in his stable at present, especially with Joe in his twilight he'll want the Khans, Mitchells & Arthur's to fight anyone but each other.

I can't see Warren doing business with a class act like Hennessey either.
