Tyson didnt get to cocky.. He was undertrained and underprepared..
I suppose it could be thought as cocky to have underestimated douglas.. But it wasnt really cocky towards douglas as that was just how his career was going at the time..
Much as it pains me to say it, you're right on the button. It wasn't just cockiness on Tyson's part, he was really starting to get into the financial rewards of being a top boxer outside the sport, and enjoying the trappings of celebrity. He's out having expensive meals instead of focussing on the boxing and eating right, and it all detracts from the performance. It was less being cocky and more just not having his head fully in the game.
