thought about that while watching penalosa-de leon match. penalosa was hitting de leon with some nice hooks and de leon was wide open. but because of the size difference, de leon just takes those shots like nothing.
i said to myself, what if rey bautista will connect with those shots? certainly it is more powerful than those of penalosa. but then again, penalosa is a veteran and bautista is still raw.

Whuy would you wan't to match up a possible fututre champ whos just hittin g the 20 fight mark with an estrablsihed career?
Cause you saw that Gerry was able to land an hooking right hand?
Gerrys not Boom Boom, and Boom is not Gerry.
To say that Boom Boom would beat or to say that it's a good ifdea to mathch Boom Bom with PDL because of tonoights fight is npt a good way to see thingss.....

Gerry Penesola put in a great performence he even backed DPDL up and was hurting him !!

GP showed a great counter right hook and and picked a beautifull left hand !!

How the fuck did one of the judges have it by 12 rounds to DPDL.?

Hmmm I think PDL felt the punches of Penalosa. Penalosa clearly hurt the jaw of PDl right?

I had Ponce winning by 2,it was a close fight and DAM Gerry is tough(good call Pacfan) BUT you simply cannot win a round throwing and landing 1 or 2 for every 7,8,9 of your opponent. And Ponce's bodywork was very very good,he's learning that not every fight can end via KO and not to always go head hunting and his work rate was phenomenal!

CC, thanks Gamo, I pretty much agree with everything you've said. I think Ponce got the respect of Gerry's punches cuz in the last two rounds, he was running a lot, probably didn't want to take chances while he was ahead, but no doubt he won.

...Now to Boom-boom, at last having seen de Leon, I wasn't impressed. I thought young Gerry would've KO'd him and any sleek boxer with good power can beat him. He fought somewhat like Darchinian, his punches, though very stiff, were very wide and slow, and easily telegraphed. He himself admitted Penalosa was faster than him before the fight. I think Boom-boom can handle him. I've seen some maturity in his fights lately - more patient, calculating, never respecting his opponent. I think seeing Penalosa standing in front of de Leon all night and not getting much hurt should encourage Boom-boom. I won't say he'll definitely win against de Leon but I can say that he's ready, definitely.

Hmmmmm,whilst I agree that GERRY WAS MUCH MUCH faster than Ponce,most of his opponents are,he makes up for it with work rate. And although Boom Boom is a superb fighter,I'm a fan,his defence is nowhere near as compact as Gerry's and he probably is nowhere near as tough(Gerry is 1 tough mo fo!). If that had been anyone else in the ring,I'm pretty siure they would have wilted from Ponce's at times deadly body attacks. I agree,wathing Ponce,I wonder why I'm a fan but his tenacity,his heart,his willingness to fight with anyone,his power,strength,and work rate impress me.

Did you see how Gerry blocked those kidney shots, I couldn't believe it, he knew when they were coming without even looking at them and his elbow was always there when the shots came, that's why he didn't get hurt there. I think that was some masterful defense move and that's the part I loved most in the fight.
