I knew something was awry when Hopkins won by a lopsided decision against a very game Forbes. To top it off, officials at the Nevada State Athletic Commission were haplessly perusing the crack dens of Vegas to find 'judges' that would score the main event.
Hats off to both Barrera and Marquez for a thrilling bout on such a woefully dreadful card. Shame on the sport of sports for continually living up to its corrupt reputation, and in this case, exceeding its tar and feather image by putting incompetent, and possibly over-drugged, delusional simps at ringside to score the bout.
I would have even been satisfied with a draw or a 1 point discrepancy going either way to each fighter. Although I thought Barrera clearly won the fight, I could have swallowed a split decision going to Marquez.
Fact of the matter is this: Boxing has become a joke. With such grave injustices as decisions and scores such as this, we can only hope that fighters risk more, take additional chances and ultimately take any decisive factors away from 'judges' by going for broke, throwing caution to the wind, and fighting purely for the KO.
I'm sickened by such scandalous ineptitude and flagrant corruption, and my stomach is soured by what has happened tonight.
Manny, in his post-fight closing remarks, summarized this disgrace without pulling any punches. Lampley, the consummate diplomat and spinmeister that he is, attempted to reason the merits of such an unreasonable decision.
Champions like Barrera are made inside of the ring; champions like Barrera are rare commodities to the sport. It's disgusting and disgraceful to see one such man that has given so much to the sport and to his adoring fans be shafted in such a blatantly and outlandish way. The sport of boxing loves its heroes, but it's a disgusting testament to the wicked side of human nature when we so callously tear them down...Pathetic is a term that comes to mind. But that would be a gross understatement.

It was a great fight. I was surprised when it wasnt even declared a split decision. I was sure 1 judge would have given it to JMM after a fight like that, but to hear those margins and at the point of not even knowing the winner, I was extremely sickened....

The 7th round was great, but tarnished by judicial incompetence and the judges were well off. We ALL agree that the fight was extremely close. Even those that think JMM edged it think so. Those that think Barrera won think so. So to get 118-109 is a fallacy of the highest order. Absolutely criminal!!
You said it. I mean come on, what kind of crock of shit is that? I watched the fight completely sober and saw what happened. And what I saw was Barrera clearly, CLEARLY win the first 6 rounds 10 to 9. He should have won the seventh too, if it weren't for his post knockdown shenanigans, and even so, scored correctly (Jay Nady) it should have been an even round taking into account the knockdown points minus the foul. Instead it was by Nady's call, a 10-8 round for Marquez. This puts it at 68-64 (although by my counting the knockdown i think it should have been 70-64) for Barrera going into rounds 8 - 12. Even if Marquez had won every single one of those rounds (10 to 9 cuz he damn sure didnt earn any 10-8 rounds after that), the scores would read 114-113 for Marquez (by counting the 7th round knockdown it would have been 115-114 for Barrera). Now to get a 116-111 score, which two of the idiot judges had; that would have had Marquez winning 8 rounds of the fight; which is complete and utter bullshit. At the most, Marquez won six rounds. And 118-109? That judge should just be put to sleep. Boxing needs to take a fucking look at just who they are putting in to judge these fights. Is it some drooling senior citizen with an oxygen tank so old that he can no longer hold his mouth closed? Or is it some golf happy jackass from the country club who knows nothing about boxing but is buddies with the heads of the sanctioning bodies that appoint the judges? That accounts for the two 116-111 scores. I am assuming they had Stevie Wonder scoring the third card. Jesus. What a crock of wet steaming poop.
