Yeah Miranda's a better fighter today... But like you say, the Mayorga that beat Forrest was a very good fighter.. IMO, pound for pound, Miranda will never be as good as Mayorga was.. And I don't think a lot of Mayorga even at his best..
Totally know how you feel and I feel it too, even for moments in the Oscar fight, the very first thing Mayorga did in that fight was parry a patented, perfect Oscar De La Hoya jab and counter it with an effective right hand. I know it seems crazy because Mayorga was as crude as they come, but he seemed capable, by fluke, luck or skill of incredible things. With the right guidance he could have been the 2nd Roberto Duran. Instead, he's a gotdamn freak who can fight but is incapable of civil function.
Thats pretty harsh, but mostly true. I love Mayorga, and like I said it is a compliment to be compared to him at his prime. But now he is more of an attraction than a hungry world class fighter like he was. He's like Tyson AFTER Prison. I too thought Mayorga could have been another Duran, but he got robbed against Spinks and moved up in weight where he didn't belong. I love the guy and he's a hell of a warrior, and I still think he can knock out Vargas, but Vargas will most likely be his last big fight, if not last fight period.
