floyd is trying to promote himself, he's a character in the boxing world. i don't understand why people never comprehend this.
He has to market himself somehow (obviously his boxing ability only attracts so many fans) and if he is taking the arrogant route, more the power to him. People often wonder why boxers such as Naz, Eubank and other outspoken althletes accumulate so much wealth for themselves. It's because they are outspoken, controversial and create a degree of excitement to the sporting public. A sport would be dead if everyone didn't talk, characters are needed to a certain extent. The boxers who can back it up with their pugilism skills are the fighters who will most likely attract the biggest crowds. Muhammad Ali is a prime example.

Mayweathers arrogance is down to his father who told him he was destined for greatness from a young age .
I wish i could dig up the interview with Floyds granpap who seemed ( shock horror ) to be quite level headed and blamed Snr for Jnrs complete lack of humility .

Actually i think Floyd is probably a nice lad his interviews seem pretty natural he likes to talk and can back it up but as far as insulting Sugar Ray Lenord goes thats just silliness and talking in the 3rd person is a real turn off but even Ricky Hatton does that now .

Any young man with that amount of Money and people around him telling him what he wants to hear is going to be arrogant but i dont think he is totally unapproachable he seems very open and is going to respondwith hostility when questioned .

He is not an all time great IMO .

It may be me but I saw a preview of the upcoming Delahoya-Mayweather 24/7 special that is airing this month and I thought it looked pretty entertaining just based on the amount of shit that Mayweather was talking. i mean ok the guys very good talented fast etc...... but he aint anything special. Theres plenty of crazier Boxers out there. I met mayweather 2 times and both times he was being cocky. he was talking to me like he's god I just wanted to crack him right there on the spot .

Well maybe someday Mayweather will decide to take on quality opponents and risk a blemish on his record. Gatti, Judah, Corrales, Castillo, Baldomar - lol .... more like a list of "Who's not Who's List". I can not disregard his record but I am unable to bestow greatness on his body of work (boxing opponents) as so many in here have. Where does a decision loss to DLH leave him? Where does a Knocked the F***** out by DLH result leave his legacy?

He said that somebody has to play the bad guy. That right there is enough for me to know he really is just talking because he understands that it will sell some seats or PPV buys. He realizes people watch to see him get beat, it doesn't matter though he still gets the check. The only problem is he isn't good at being the bad guy. He isn't scary looking, or crazy enough to scare people, so in the end he looks more the comedy bad guy. Too bad James Toney has that role for life no matter what Floyd does. I really believes how Floyd conducts himself from here on out will have a large impact on how people will look back at him in years to come. If snakes like Delahoya and Leonard can be good guys to the public I don't see why Floyd couldn't.

man why do so many peeps actually care if a good athlete is arrogant or cocky? if they can back it up so be it, but if they suck balls and they are cocky/arrogant now thats different. athletes are very competitive and some are smart enough to play the cocky/arrogant card for self marketing reasons while others are just plain insecure. but i really dont see anything wrong with being cocky/arrogant especially if one has the credentials.

theres a bit of truth or relief when one is cocky/arrogant and is not afraid to boast IMO
