Its obvious Warren is trying so hard to put British boxing on the map but its only proving to be detrimental to his fighters.

I think its always healthy for boxing if a fighter to be relatively well travelled.
A fighter is bound to have more options open to him if he is willing to travel.

By looking at what has been happening with the huge influx of eastern European fighters, particularly in the heavyweight division, we are now noticing more proposals for big fights in places like Russia, Germany etc...

Thats only gonna be good for boxing...

It may not be good for the travelling opponent, more so if he's the champ but fighters and promoters need to move away form the notion of defending titles (or reputations) out of their own back yards.

Who quickly would UFC die if it became apparent that the best fighters refused to travel outside of their wishes?
Exactly! So you can see one of the reasons boxing is dying.

In regrards to Joe Calzaghe.... He is as much to blame as all the promoters, fighters and even networks involved in this 10 year episode of watching potentially brilliant match ups slip away on the basis of absolutely anything and everything outside of boxing.
    Well said.

    That’s bullshit.
Again disagree with you Wackster... Hopkins, Jones fought 3x the better opposition than Calzaghe ever did... And to even put Joe's name anywhere near Oscars unless Delahoya looking for a new cleaning lady is just sacreligious.... Oscar is a fine warrior and has fought hands down the best fighters of this generation, win or lose he strived to leave his mark on the sport, he is a modern day great that will be remebered as such.....2 of Joe Calzaghe couldnt fit in Oscar Delahoya's Jock strap
Joe will be remembered as a paper champion and easily forgotten as is Sven Ottke

If Joe had even 1 ounce the testicular fortitude he would have traveled to the US at least a couple times to fight in the US... The above referenced names didnt need to travel they were in the backyard already willing to contest for who was the best in there respective divisions..

As far as Floyd goes he may be a thug and run his mouth incessantly, is outlandish and as full of himself as they come BUT.... His resume looks golden compared to Calzaghe's

Not a problem, JT. I just call it like I see it. You are arguably the best poster on the site.

Smashster... Its a shame because Joe has a Fukload of talent and Swagger to be a bona fied alltime great.. The Calzaghe that handed Lacy his azz could give a prime Jones, Hopkins, Toney all kinds of trouble and an even chance of winning... I mean I dont need to remind you of the volume, angles, handspeed and accuracey   The problem is we will never know... 34, fragile hands and the top fighters of the surrounding division unavailable with fights of their own, only spells further mediocrity from Joe

They said that Jones complains he has no real challengers to which Mike answered "thats just wrong, he has Nigel Benn"

Bearing in mind this was just after Benns fight with McClellen, who was a bigger fight back then for Jones than Benn ?

That fight crippled Mcclellan and ruined Benn... Jones would of Punished Benn and humiliated him..... Pre Mcclellan great fight, Post McClellan one sided embarrasing whitewash for Jones

Thats knowing what Benn fought like afterwards, directly after the fight Jones would have shiit himself at the thought of facing that animal that McClellans bombs couldnt stop and Benn had just become an even bigger name, the fight would have been huge

Highly doubt that when you look at what a Phenom Jones was at that time.. I mean Benn wasnt gonna match Jones in anything except maybe power.... Jones would have handled Benn quite easily

Surely the easy answer to that one would have been for RJJ to come over here and knock seven shades of s**t out of Nigel Benn, IF he was so superior.

My immediate answer to the question in the Subject line of the thread is "No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no. Never. Frank Warren is never right.
However, having read the first post, and CC hatzz for a good topic, I'm gonna have to agree with CutmeMick's reply to some extent, in that it has to be a huge fight. For me, it has to be Kessler or Taylor, two fighters in their prime and with star status in the boxing world. However, if they can make it in America, then so be it, but if that fight is against Kessler, I'm not totally convinced that it should be in the states. For that one it makes sense that it ought to be in a big stadium event here in Europe.
I'll never turn away from Joe if he does continue to fight second-raters like Manfredo, but it will be a disappointing culmination to his career if it does. So whether it be in the States (probably) or in Europe then he needs to put some effort into compromising to get big fights and make the legacy great.
