I dont know man. I think you guys are caught up remembering the Oscar of old like die-hard Tyson fans used to be like. Not that Delahoya is that old, but I really think he is leaps and bounds away from the Golden Boy we all remember. Sure he beat the living hell out of Mayorga, but come on. Mayorga blocks punches with his face just like Gatti does. It took Oscar twice as long to do the exact same thing. I think Oscar Delahoya is in for an ass-kicking on May 5. He won't get knocked out, but Floyd is gonna put hands on him big time. I'm thinking it resembles the first Sugar Shane fight (where for the first time, he actually looked beat up afterward), but I think this time, Oscar's gonna really look ready to retire...he will smile what Larry Mercant loves to call his 'million watt smile' (which now is down to probably about a 350,000 watt smile), shake his head and walk off into the sunset...possibly returning to whup ass on a lesser opponent to go out with a win or maybe even go out with another belt. Dont get me wrong, he has a chance that he might be able to catch Mayweather with the big punch; he has a chance that the judges will give him a decision on his star power (which has happened in the past...they may give a gift to the largely Hispanic audience; giving their hero the 'W' on Cinco de Mayo), but I'm thinking both those chances are really miniscule. Im also thinking that since 2003, Delahoya has gone 2-2 (if u didnt give him his fight against Felix Sturm, which a lotta people didn't he is 1-3). Pretty Boy Floyd Mayweather Jr, as we all know, has yet to taste defeat. Mayweather will undoubtedly be prepared to go 12 rounds of nonstop, stick-and-move flurries and footwork. Oscar has a history of slowing down in the later rounds. Regardless of what he says, when he is on the losing end of exchanges against faster opponents (a la Mosley), he usually gets on his bicycle late in the fight. The only edge Oscar has in this fight are punching power and the ring size, which he was crafty enough to negotiate like pretty much all the other parameters of this fight. I think he's gonna try hard and he's gonna be game the whole night but the whole night he's gonna be one tiny little fraction of a step behind. He will chase Mayweather but will never quite get there. Instead he's gonna get smacked in the face. Make no mistake about it; Floyd can out move, out slick and out box Oscar Delahoya at this point in their careers. On the 5th, I believe he will prove it to the world.

That fight - the second - was just about when I started watching boxing seriously after a lapse of many years. I was couch-side, not ringside - but remember being dismayed by the decision. I thought it was de la Hoya's also. So did the wife but she's just keen on Oscar for some reason.

Point remains though since styles make fights - Mosley's speed was a major factor in his fights with Oscar. Floyd's faster than Mosley and faster than Oscar; at least at lower weights where Floyd shines. Oscar needs to bring the fight inside, watch that he's not open to Floyd's right, and land.

He needs to own the fight and take it to Floyd, not let Floyd flutter, poke for points and run.

He'll have to work harder than Floyd will to make this happen. Floyd can win on points by just staying outside and doing his normal fight and flee without burning up a lot of energy. Oscar will have to use more energy to close on Floyd as well as land effectively.

Guess I'm concerned about Oscar running out of gas if he doesn't do a lot of successful "owning" of the fight in a consistent manner from early on. I'd be surprised to see de la Hoya pull it out in the championship rounds if he hasn't been deploying his energy very well earlier on, and if the fight isn't at least roughly even by that time.

A natural outcome of this fight is Floyd UD with his poke and prance, but if Oscar can manage to "surprise" Floyd and follow up effectively, a TKO in Oscar's favor mid-late rounds would be a pleasant result.

The the 1st couple of rounds I almost agree with you but I think Oscar should try and absolutley steamroll Floyd, eat what ever Floyd throws just to land his own, put some hurt on him take away his heart and maybe he hurts his hands trying to earn Oscars respect. BUT I don't think Oscar has to chase Floyd after the first couple of rounds, that will spell disaster and Floyd will do what he does best.

I think Oscar's only shot at this is to pump the jab all night long and when Floyd throws those straight right hands and slips under and away ala Roy Jones Jr, Oscar needs to make him pay. He should just use his left hook for the body early on because Floyd will be thinking about his chin. The overhand right could work ok too, Floyd gets lazy in the middle rounds sometimes and I think even Baldomir could have got a knockdown if he was just a little quicker and extended some more. Baldo only has a 67" reach Oscar has a 73" reach and is 3.5 inches taller, I think Oscars overhand right will get the first knock down.

I see Floyd as having a harder choice as to what type of fight to fight than Oscar!! If he fights like he did against Baldomir (most will think i'm nuts for saying this) he is making mistakes all night and his chin is out there for the taking, when you get caught fighting like that its lights out. If he grounds his feet and fights defensive like he did against Judah he is in for a war of attrition and is going to hurt.

I hope Floyd lives up to everyones exspectations and gives us a fight but I think he is smarter than he is proud and will try and win this with his legs not his fists.

Hmm, well, I meant to be saying something similar; Floyd's going to run, his speed is going to allow him to stay outside, and Oscar will have to make the effort to get to Floyd ... but if Floyd can trick him into running laps all night, then Oscar will run out of gas.

He needs to cut the ring intelligently and conserve his energy. But maybe you're right ... Oscar has a good jab and a reach, and Floyd has to engage even for his poke and prance style. If Floyd's going to point he has to approach. Oscar's not as quick as Floyd but he's no slouch in the speed department.

And if Oscar puts some hurt on Floyd early as you suggest, might alter Floyd's flight plan ... er, fight plan.
