That fight was the knee injury. Without a doubt. However, that fight ruined him mentally. Prior to that his greatness was over just like everyone says, and he was just good. But he could compete at the upper echelon and be competetive he lacked the desire to win at the top level.

But after that he's ruined and can't even beat below average fighters. McBride only won cause Tyson was mentally destroyed by that Williams fight. Plain and simple.
I don't think the Williams fight mentally destroyed him i think he realised in the McBride fight he was done he could no longer get up for fights he had been fighting just for the money for years had he not been robbed out of millions he would have retired after 2nd holyfield fight or somewhere near their its such a shame that someone who's earned over £500m ends up £22m in debt once Cus and Jimmy died people just swarmed him like vulchers people he trusted and loved ripped him off King, holloway,Horne and Givens
The reason I think the Williams fight destroyed him mentally is this.... He was killing Williams, seriously, beating him senseless, he hurts his knee, his body starts to go into shock and he loses all his strength. Williams survived the beating and wins by ko.
The knock on Tyson before that fight was if you get past the 3rd round Tyson will tire and you can win. Up till that point nobody had proven that theory. This fight it happens because of a severe knee injury, and all the media starts saying "see Tyson can't go past the 3rd round". That was all over the media, and I think Tyson already knew his heart wasn't in fighting anymore, but now he believes he can't make it past the 3rd round anymore. He gets in the ring with McBride and Tyson gives up. Prior to that fight Tyson never quit. He took severe beatings and still didn't quit. He could take a punch and has a hell of a chin. So obviously he wasn't hurt by Williams or McBride. He gave up.

I agree with King and all that mess destroying his career and personal life. You can see it happened as soon as Don King got involved.
