That might have been how things were in 1940 but fighter safety is at a premium now, if a fighter doesn't want to continue, he shouldn't be pressured to do so. And he definitely shouldn't be chided for it, especially since the fight up to the stoppage was a very good one. Duran is one of the most respected fighters of all time, and he said no more. I would much rather see Freitas - Corrales and see a fighter quit then watch something like Byrd - Williamson or Castillo - Reyes where neither fighter even puts themself in the position to think about whether or not to carry on.
Futch pulled the plug on that fight, Ali slumped down on the stool too, both were shattered!

I agree the Corrales/ Freitas was a good fight, very competitive until Corrales started to connect.

There will always be that black mark on Duran's record.

Fighters that wanna quit should move to MMA where their given an out & it's acceptable to quit.
