Well, we'll see. He's got some skill, yes, there's no disputing that. But I think he has some weaknesses that have stayed hidden because of his competition, or lack thereof, and most of this p4p thing over the last couple years has been more hype than substance.Originally Posted by amat
If he were to get beaten badly in this one, then wrap up his career in a mediocre fashion, people would look back on his career and see no special accomplishments. Even now, hell, the guys been a pro for a decade and who's the best fighter he's ever faced? Castillo. A very good fighter, certainly, but look down the list of Oscar's competition and there are at least a half dozen names that are far superior. There's just no comparison. Also, I laughed my ass off the other night when I heard him say he fights the best. He never even fought the best at super featherweight or lightweight, not to mention that he could have moved up and faced real competion a long time ago. Nope, he's been content just hanging out there at 135 racking up wins against nobody, then complaining that he wasn't getting any respect.
Suddenly he moves up in weight, fights some, in my opinion, very questionable competition, and suddenly he's #1 p4p. Come on. All hype.
I might be dead wrong, it wont be the first time, but I just don't see it. Maybe on the 5th I will. Here's what I see now.
1) He's never fought anyone like Oscar, not in skill, power, or size. Not even close.
2) Now he's moving up dramatically in quality, and he's doing it at 154. 154!!! Since he's moved up from 135, who has he fought with any real power? Zip. Now he's moving up to 154 and he's never even felt any real 140 or 147 power, with the possible exception of a couple time Zab stuck him. He's going to be shocked when he feels Oscar's power.
That's the way it is with hype. It can disappear quickly. If he loses this one badly and doesn't manage anything particularly impressive the rest of his career, he'll be remembered on some level, but not with the respect of an all-time great that he seems to have now.
I've felt for a long time that a strong aggressive fighter with decent boxing skills could take advantage of Floyd. Someone who was willing to walk through his stuff and just take it to him hard. Did you ever notice how he reacted when those little guys would pound on him a little? That's why I think a young Camacho definitely could have beaten him, not to mention most of the others who were mentioned. Anyway, that's how I see it. Soon enough, we'll all know.
