Default Mayweather vs Sherk NBC poll

The voting has more than 95% choosing Sean Sherk over the punk Mayweather.

Boxing would be exposed as how limited it is if this fight would take place. Too many suckers buying boxing PPVs though, so it will never happen.

Put a tennis player in baseball just because he knows how to swing something and that tennis player gets embarrassed. Put Sherk in a boxing ring, and Sherk would be disposed of with ABSOLUTE ease. Mayweather would likely be a bit harder in the MMA ring but would probably lose. This whole thing is assanine as are you.

I feel just as dominated Sherk would be in a boxing ring PBF would equally be disposed of in the Octagon. It wasn't a mma fighter bashing boxing as not a legitamate sport and its fighters as not real atheletes it was PBF suggesting that any boxer could get in the octagon and whip MMA's top fighters. Its only fair to ask PBF to back up his talk.

I only said he would have slightly more of a chance is because in an MMA ring, Sherk would at least have to be very wary of Mayweather's punching. Mayweather would have absolutely nothing to worry about in he boxing ring.

Boxing is not limited -it is a refined sport and very intricate. Whenever people mention kickboxing I always see that as a bit of a joke because it takes away from the technique of pure boxing with block and punching and counterpunching. Yet kickboxers would have a big advantage over a pure boxer but so what. Pure boxing to me is art, kickboxing is not as much art. Can you imagine great fighters like Hearns or Jones (who have skinny legs) doing well with kickboxers when they kick the legs? They would not do so well, although Hearns did fight an exhibition once against a guy named Superfoot Wallace. Guys like this Sherk fellow can use their legs and body and everything.. All different kinds of tactics. Doesn't mean it is better it is just a legalized streetfight. Boxing is a sport of art. It is the sweet science and when you have two great fighters in the ring there is nothing better. It is as much art as a great painting or making a sculpture. Octagon or ultimate fighting is on a good upswing lately because of cable tv, but it will never have the classic artistic aura of boxing.. But I do respect it and the work these guys go through.

another point is that Mayweather is not the best fighter to fight to win in the octagon. If you want a boxer to fight in the octagon, why not get Julian Jackson at 154 or Tyson or Tua at heavyweight. Those guys would at least have the punch to end it. Mayweather is not the kind of boxer to do well in the octagon. I honestly do not watch much MMA or ultimate fighting. I respect the guys and it looks hard as hell but the refinement of boxing is not there. Boxing has little things which make up the big picture.

I really don't have the patience to debate you boxing losers. Boxing will return to the ghetto from which it sprang. And please don't call boxers fighters; MMA is a fight.

Boxing is dead, but its brain still hasn't gotten the message to the body. That will come after this weekend, after Oscar De La Hoya fights Floyd Mayweather. Don't be fooled by whatever noise comes out of Las Vegas. It's just boxing's death rattle.

Once Oscar De La Hoya retires, what will boxing have to offer?
Boxing has been dying for years, of course. But the old boy has bled and wheezed and stumbled onward because, frankly, there was nothing to take its place. Nothing to finish off this once-regal sport -- which has spent decades hitting itself in the stomach -- with a fist to the face.

losers? You came to us so go fuck yourself pal. and BTW, Mayweather would make Sherk look like an idiot. sherk has never seen handspeed at even a fraction of PBF's. He's a big fish in pond the size of a puddle. He defeated Kenny Fucking Florian for fucks sake. A true legend.

    MMA is not an art?
Martial arts is just one of the oldest arts in the history of the world!
I myself love to watch both MMA and boxing.I get kinda tired of the whole "MMA vs Boxing issue though.Hopefully we will see them start to fight each other, but until then who knows?
I don't think that cable tv is making MMA bigger than boxing,I think the corruption in boxing is making MMA a little more viewed!Who really knows I say we all watch and enjoy both

I think this whole thing is ridiculous. In a boxing match PBF wins. IN an MMA match sherk wins.

    Its not rocket science.

Hey I am not saying Sherk would not beat Mayweather.. He has 30 more things he can do to Mayweather. Mayweather is an expert of the boxing, yet I would not say that because Sherk can beat a light punching boxer like Floyd, it means MMA fighters are better just that they can do so much more and the limits on them are not as much. Floyd does not stand for all of boxing. But put a guy who punches like Julian Jackson or Tua in with an MMA fighter and that would be more fair yet still just not the same. I am not knocking MMA at all, I am just saying that boxing is here to stay. Respectfully I do not think MMA will ever be as big as boxing for a few reasons.. Boxing has a place in the american and world's subconscious. MMA will do well for a little while. but it will never take boxings place. I like MMA and have watched it sometimes, but it cannot have the stamp of classic sport on it that boxing does. Boxers hone their skills over many years. Look at the great amatuer fighters and pros.150-200 amatuer fights in boxing. Then when they are pros they fight 50 fights average probably. Now look at the amount of the fights MMA fighters have ? At the most the top guys have 20 fights. You cannot hone skills too high if you have not perfected them with the amount of times boxers fights. That is why boxers are so impressive when they are at the top.

Boxing will not go away. If boxing is in a bad position it is because of what managers and the promoters have done to it. If you have 5 belts at a certain weight the champs will not want to fight each other. That is why guys like Ali and Foreman and Norton and Frazier, or Hagler and Hearns and Duran and Leonard were so respected by boxing people and me included. Because they sort of brought out the best in boxing and made the respect for the sport go up. Not because they were greater than any other boxers before or later, but because the way they fought and committed themselves brought a better respect to that era of boxing and it made boxing better. I respect MMA but it cannot become as big as boxing. When I hear things about boxers fighting MMA fighters or wrestlers fighting boxers it does not make sense to me. Sherk cannot make it as a boxer or he would have , and Mayweather cannot fight in the octagon. What I like about boxing is the fact that fighters likes Roy Jones Jr. and Floyd Mayweather Jr. can be so dominant in the ring and not be really the kind of boxers who liked to exchange punches with their opponents. They are not like Gatti or Holyfield . They are so good they are untouchable. That is the great thing about boxing, Hit and not get hit. Nothing can really diminish boxing.

and what will help boxing is to have one title belt in each division and one promoter controlling everything. Then a promoter or belt organization cannot control certain fighters from not fighting the other ones. Alot of people have been saying this for years and nothing ever happens to solve it. But I do not think MMA will take boxings place. Boxing has a certain majestic quality to it and the events are classic. Something is being overlooked by that article you posted from CBS sports. We need eras like Ali, Frazier,Norton,Foreman and Hagler,Hearns,Leonard,Duran. That seems to revive boxing well. Guys always complained about the legends controlling all the money. Iran Barkley used to say it, yet he did not realize that those same legends were the reason he was getting his paychecks much higher than he would have without the legends. Boxing needs a good era to boost it back. But MMA will not be the reason it goes under if it does.

Jeremy Horn has alot more than 20 fights!
I don't think MMA will take boxings place but it is constantly growing bigger and bigger.
Right now MMA is more fun for me to watch cause when someone wins, they win!
Boxing has been plauged by corruption for a long time now!
