Default CALZAGHE v TAYLOR in September....

Calzaghe trails Taylor to States to make a rare excursion out of Wales

Calzaghe will make a rare excursion out of Wales
Super middleweight star Joe Calzaghe is heading to Memphis in pursuit of middleweight king Jermain Taylor.

The Welshman, 35, is hoping to secure a super fight with Taylor in September, and will be ringside for the WBC and WBO middleweight champion's next bout.

"My promoter Frank Warren was in the US recently to talk with Taylor's promoter Lou DiBella and they are hopeful something can be done," said Calzaghe.

"I want to make it happen and I will be going to Memphis for Taylor's fight."

Twenty-eight-year-old Little Rock man Taylor, who holds a record of 26-0-1 (17 KOs), defends his titles against Cory Spinks at the Fed-Ex Forum on 19 May.

There's no fracture, relief really is the only word

    Calzaghe on his hand injury

"I will be sat at ringside and will tell any of the media in attendance that care to listen how keen I am to face Taylor," said long-reigning WBO super middleweight champion Calzaghe in his column for the South Wales Argus.

"I think this fight would be absolutely huge, rivalling anything in boxing in years, two undefeated champions very rarely get the opportunity to meet one another.

"If 35,000 people came to see me take on Peter Manfredo Jr, just imagine how many would want to see one of the fights of the decade."

Calzaghe, 43-0 (32 KOs), has been boosted by the news that the hand he injured in stopping Manfredo last month is not broken.

"There was a slight fear that a difficult fracture might have been career threatening, but thankfully that isn't the case, a scan confirmed that there is no break," said the Newbridge bruiser.

"It should be healed soon and then I can get back into full training. Relief really is the only word."

Thats sentence alone suggests he wants it in Wales...Will Taylor want to come over though?

Don't agree...Joe's to fast and too strong for him It may go the full 12 but i don't see anyway Taylor can beat him really.
Joe beats him in every department imo.

Taylor is a big middle though he's about 6ft 1inch i bet he would be physically bigger than Calzaghe

Joe's 6 ft 1 and regularly comes down from 14 stone so no he wouldn't have any physical advantages at all.
    He'll get schooled mate

Joe is 5 foot 11 and has dodgy hands i wouldn't bet money on Calzaghe with those hands.

Calzaghe does not deserve Jermaine Taylor. Neither does Ricky Hatton merit a fight with Mayweather. Both fighters, Calzaghe and Hatton are depending too much on their victories over Lacy and Tsyzu as a means to garnish a payday. I hope Jermaine Taylor and Mayweather are not foolish enough to get used by Calzaghe and Hatton.

There are other much more deserving fighters for both Taylor and Mayweather. For Taylor a rematch with Winky should be the next thing on his list since their first fight was indecisive. For Mayweather, Mosely should be his next fight since Mosely has beaten Vargas (twice) and Callazo.

Calzaghe did not fight Michelschewski when he was in his prime, and now he is trying everyway he can to not fight Mikkel Kessler.

Sorry to say this but I am tired of these Brits. They are trying very hard to muscle in on the fame, the prestige and the wealth of American fighters by doing the bare minimum in the sport.

Imagine Jermaine Taylor had to fight Hopkins (twice), then Winky Wright, then Kassim Ouma, now Spinks, and then to have an undeserving Calzaghe at the end of this ridiculously hard stretch of fights. Whilst all that Calzaghe has to do is sit on his behind and fight the likes of Manfredo and duck Kessler.
