    THE GOOD:
regardless of what many haters say, the Golden Boy can (believe it or not) fight his a** off

dont forget he was an olympic champion and the only american gold medalist in boxing that year

the motivational death of his mom gave him a moving and interesting back story which heightened his popularity.

it can be said that he fought many past-their-prime opponents but fought the best available nonetheless; he didnt really ever duck anyone. Everyone that was worthy of fighting him, delahoya fought. he didnt always win but he F****** fought them and didnt back down or duck anyone for S***. the guy's resume stands as a pretty good account of why he is liked so much (Bernard Hopkins, Pernell Whitaker, Julio Cesar Chavez, Sugar Shane Mosley, Floyd Mayweather, Arturo Gatti, Ike Quartey, Oba Carr, Javier Castillejo, Fernando Vargas, Felix Trinidad, Genaro Hernandez, Jorge Paez, Rafael Ruelas...to name a few).

    THE BAD:
his looks give him super populariy. like it or not, all the bitches are all over oscar's nutsack like flies on S***. interestingly enough, from what accounts of his ex's i have read in his biographies, he was a mega-egotist and was all about himself. his looks alone get him more publicity and popularity than just about any fighter out there. they even asked in an interview who delahoya thought had the advantage in the looks department, to which he smiled and replied, "delahoya."

he looks like a white guy...this is always a huge popularity boost, ignorantly enough...regardless of his boxing ability, the fact that he looks white, although he's NOT, will always make oscar more popular than if he were more stereotypically Mexican or African American.

he's a good politician, meaning he is full of S*** and fake as hell. oscar has a multimillion dollar industry and an "image" to keep up. this is the main reason he seems (and was accused by mayweather of being) fake or not having much personality...but it keeps him in good graces as far as keeping up his image and staying ever-popular!

    THE GAY:
homosexually labeled as a 'matinee idol' by larry merchant. ultra-popular due to his much-hyped looks and is thought to sometimes not fight as hard (such as in his bout with Felix Trinidad) in order to protect them, where he, fighting fatigue, took the option to be gay and run without throwing any punches in return rather than stand and fight it out with his Puerto Rican super rival and fourth megafight loss (the others being to B.Hopkins, Shane Mosley, and Floyd Mayweather, Jr.).

was nominated for a latin grammy causing popularity and gayness to soar to alarming rates. even worse, alarming numbers of gay people who like latin pop music started to like him and since people who like latin pop music are stupid they began using words like "cross-over" interchangeably with words like "bi-curious"

I mean Floyd BARELY beat an Oscar De la Hoya whom obviously wasn't on his game, and at 34 and with a year off who blames him.

Floyd is VERY GOOD in my opinion he just isn't great

Oscar is from East LA.....mexican doesn't even begin to describe how Mexican that makes him (hahaha, yall know I'm just bullshittin).

His ethnicity doesn't do much for him, remember most Mexicans hated his ass when he whupped Vargas....and when he fought Chavez.....Mexicans have wanted Oscar to lose more than anyone else.

Oscar is an exciting fighter, he is flashy but he can do all the blue collar stuff as well and yeah I guess the fact that he doesn't LOOK like a boxer helps out a lot too but look at Robinson and Leonard....those guys didn't look like boxers either. I mean Floyd is called "Pretty Boy" for a reason too but he's hated because he acts like a jackass. Oscar carries himself with class and doesn't act like a thug or hood either which is why some people call him two faced or a poser or a fraud....for the last time

THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH ACTING INTELLIGENT OR WITH SHOWING CLASS!

I understand what you're saying Lyle and respect your opinion, but one thing you're not taking into consideration is that it was Floyd's FIRST fight at 154. Oscar's been at that weight for 5 years. Normally when fighters move to a new division, they don't immediately do so against that division's best. When Shane first fought DLH at welterweight he at least took 3 tuneups to get himself acclamated to the new weight.
Funny, Lyle, how you always happen to run when this is brought up about Floyd

Damn good post. Couldn't agree more. It's weird because when ODH has a fight all my non boxing friends no about it and want to order the ppv. He gets everybody watching. Women, kids, he just does, and most all are rooting for him. Most of these people don't know anything about the olympics, or his mother, etc... They just like ODH. He has all the nonboxing fans, and they outnumber us by millions.
