I'm curious (and of course ready to duck) as to where Zab Judah fits. Did Mayweather fight him too early or too late in Zab's career for it to be meaningful?Originally Posted by Starr
Do you really think that Chavez against Mayweather was pre-prime Chavez? I thought he was at the top of his game; was hoping he'd win. But I didn't ever think that he wasn't ready for prime time. Has he improved considerably since then, you think? He's now 43-3-0, and has fought only 8 fights since losing to Mayweather, and of those lost one only, to Morales. So that means 36 of those wins came before his Mayweather fight. And five of the seven he won post-Mayweather were TKO/KO, and he went the distance with Morales. And his last eight fights just prior to Mayweather were also TKO/KO.
So I don't buy your premise that Chavez was "pre-name" when he fought Mayweather. He was boxing at his best. Of course, the mere fact that he fought Floyd may have given him more name recognition, but that's not really about Chavez but about Mayweather.
Mayweather outclassed him when he was prime, Starr. P-R-I-M-E Chavez, not pre-prime.
I think you just can't manage to put Mayweather down successfully with this line of thought - that he is ducking the best and fighting the rest.
Nope.
