Ummm...yeah that is one of the most unfounded statements ever....A stiff jab and uppercut isn't enough even in a boxing match to keep one fighter away from another much less in MMA. Clinching and fighting on the inside are staples of every boxing match. People act like MMA fighters don't have boxing coaches, dont spar and have never been hit in the face. Once again an MMA fighter doesn't have to be a world class puncher to compete against a boxer in the octagon just good enough to work his multitude of other skill sets (knees, elbows, kicks, ground game). Takedowns are not just of the single and double leg variety. I usually prefer sweeps and throws from the clinch then shooting in. Great footwork and punching alone are not enough to deny a takedown.

I dont think that cliche really applies to MMA. The days of really one dimensional fighters is on the way out. I'm not saying a "boxer" has to be an all american wrestler or abu dhabi champ but he better be real good at avoiding a takedown both in and out of the clinch able to regain his feet and versed in sub defense. Some time spent on leg and high kicks would be necessary as well. You only have to be great at one thing, but you better be good at several. I tell you a guy I'd love to see in MMA with some cross training is Jermain Taylor fighting at 170. He has the athletic ability needed as well being an awesome physical specimen.

Most boxers have been in street fights and can handle themselves on the ground maybe not great but respectably. I don't think they'd have to learn kicks as much as they'd have to focus on blocking them.

being in a street fight that ends up on the ground and fighting a world class athelete versed in multiple fighting disciplines are not exactly the same thing. Thats like saying that Tank Abbott has KO'd a few guys so he could hold his own against Wlad. One of the best defenses to leg kicks (which are a great neutralizer to a boxers allegedely superior hands) is to utilize them yourself.

not only superior hands but superior footwork as well. I've seen many a mma fight end with untechnically sound just str8 up bashing (is gorilla pounding someone really a trained skill?). If you have one foot off the ground you only have on foot on the ground and that would create an opening imo. No one has really great balance on one foot while they are trying to attack with the other one.

One of my brothers trains almost exclusively in boxing he is technically sound and is the same wieght and height as me his stance leaves him open for sweeps on the inside his footwork is geared towards avoiding punches which doesn't get him out of the way of my leg kicks and his head movement which slips punches well brings his head down into my kicks and knees. and once on the ground if all your going to do is hold on for dear life which i can brake your grip pass your guard and if you think mma fighters have no chin then you haven't been elbowed with your head against the mat or you give me your back becouse you think your going to stand up but you get choked out instead.
