Just curious about this doing too much if you're sore philosophy -

isn't it sort of common to get sore whenever you are doing something new or something you haven't done for a while?

Can you not make yourself sore, have a recovery strategy in place and get back to it after an easy day or two?

I mean getting sore in the first place is not always a sign of a training mistake is it?
