Default Calzaghe Wants Kessler to Get a Couple More Wins Before Fighting

When Brian Kenny asked Calzaghe if he wanted Kessler, he said he is a good fighter who he wants to get a couple more wins and that he would talk to him about it in 6 months. He said he was big and strong, but it could be a big fight if Kessler could raise his profile. Also said that he would want Taylor in Whales but for more money would accept a fight in the states. He said he loves Vegas.

Joe knows how to make you wait.

Yep. I liked what Joe had to say...up until that bullshit.

Kessler has done more than Joe at this point in their careers as far as opposition goes.

Kessler deserves the shot & honestly...I just can't shake the feeling that Joe is TRULY leary of making that fight happen. What killed me was the bullshit he started going on about the Andrade fight...trying to discredit Andrade after the fact. Andrade is a heck of a fighter & Kess fwockin hammered him out quite impressively.

In the end...I think that Taylor will fight the winner of Miranda Pavlik & that Joe will have no other bankable option but to fight Kess...or atleast that's how I hope that it turns out.

Actually...I'd love to see him fight & defeat Taylor...thus infuriating the Nard (who, unfortunately, I believe will defeat Winky) & thus blaze the road for a Hopkins Calzaghe super fight.

I said a long time ago that Joe would not make this happen until the last possible moment. He did the same thing with Lacy. He told him to beat someone of merit, and when Lacy did he signed the contract and pulled out a week later then had the nerve to say that he wasn't coming to the U.S. unless Lacy beat someone of merit. Which he had just done with Reid and somewhat did with Pemberton. Lacy was the star of the show at that point and Joe still didn't want the fight unless Lacy went to Europe. And I still believe that had that fight happened in the US that Lacy would have performed much better. But that point is moot.

As for Kessler having the better body of work, not yet but if he keeps moving at this rate it won't be long. Reid and Lacy are the only two real good wins for Calzaghe. And some think Reid beat him. That's like 1.5 impressive defenses.

Mikkel Kessler can fight a much improved Mundine. Mundine is a much better fighter then he was when they first tangled but I don't know if he has improved enough to beat Kessler. Other then that, Lacy is in rehab. Warren would never put Froch in with him. Bute is still a prospect and Berrio just isn't that good. So I guess it's Mundine or....Sakio Bika?

The sad thing is, Joe is a better fighter then Kessler imo. I would definitely pick Joe Calzaghe to win. But he doesn't like to have to elevate his game to accommodate to new challenges if he doesn't have/want to. Or so it would seem. So sad that one of the best fighters on the planet has a record slightly more impressive then Sven Ottke.

The only other thing that Kess can do is chase Joe down in the street & make a brawl out of it.

I love Joe...believe you me...I do & I generally would go to the ends of the earth defending the man because I honestly believe that he's unbelieveably skilled & he's a class act from his toes to the last hair on his head...but this is gettin fwockin ree-gotdam-dickulous.

If you stop & view Joe's last 6 fights & then Kesslers last 6...it kinda makes you wonder why people don't view Kess as the Undisputed Super Champ.

    Joe Calzaghe's Last 6 wins:
    --------------------------
Peter Manfredo Jr (26-3-0) 3rd Round Controversial TKO Stoppage
Sakio Bika (20-1-2) 12 Round Unanimous Decision
Jeff Lacy (21-0-0) 12 Round Career Defining Unanimous Decision
Evans Ashira (24-1-0) 12 Round Unanimous Decision
Mario Veit (45-1-0) 6th Round TKO
Kabary Salem (23-3-0) 12 Round Unanimous Decision. Joe was dropped.

    Mikkel Kessler's Last 6 wins:
    ---------------------------
Librado Andrade (24-0-0) 12 Round Unanimous Decision
Markus Beyer (34-2-1) 3rd Round Career Defining KO
Eric Lucas (38-6-3) 6th Round TKO
Anthony Mundine (23-2-0) 12 Round Career Defining Unanimous Decision
Manny Siaca (18-4-0) 8th Round Career Defining TKO
Anthony Thysse (15-3-0) 11th Round TKO

Now...if your'e wondering why I keep using "Career Defining" in these descriptions...it's not out of favor to either man...it's just the matches that brought them the most acclaim.

Personally...Kessler is more explosive in the ring while Calzaghe is a bit more dynamic.

In the end...I'm a huge fan of both...& while Kessler has impressed me more in the recent past...I've always been a fan of Joe...so my loyalty lies there...but Kess sho' does make it tuff on a fan.

Comparing the last 6 fights...Kessler has the edge of impression, IWHDO.

CC,and what makes it more impressive is that I know you love JC but you don't let that lind your opinion! How can he ask Kessler to fight more big names, when he needs to do that himself! Kessler is still young and his resume is almost better than JC's already.

I want to see this dam fight ALOT,it would be awesome but JC is being an ass about it. Make no mistake,he is tremendously talented but imagine how much better of a legacy he would have left behind had he taken better fights.

Here is an oppertunity to rectify that and he is being a prick about it. I love his skills, but if they ever fought,I think I'd be rooting for Kessler, who seems willing to fight anyone. I think Mikkels won over a superb fighter in Mundine,is as good if not better than Joes' biggest win over Jeff. I thought Jeff was awesome but 1 dimensional, having seen more of Mundine,he really is an all round, top notch fighter.

I just don't understand who Joe wants Kess to fight apart from Mundine again?!

Its time we realize calzaghe for who he is. He is a good boxer, who is scared to fight decent opponents. His main aim is to finish his career undefeated, even if he continues to fight bums. He will never fight kessler. But i am hearing romours he wants a fight with mundine. I hope he gets schooled and shown for the girl he really is.

forget joe fighting mundine, proves nothing and joe beats him. if the fight with Taylor doesnt come off, he's just gota fight kessler.
Taylor/Kessler are the only two oppenents which joe can face next at SMW, worth facing.

If Joe doesnt pull off a fight with one of these two next then i have lost faith in you joe and you have lost a real big fan!!!!

    Fantastic post.
It also looks like Taylors next fight will be against Edison Miranda (aslong as they both win tonight) especially after Taylors outburst at the press conference-it looks like Miranda has got under his skin.

So Taylor/Miranda and Kessler/Mundine next and all top fights but it looks like Joe has messed-up and will have another meaningless fight. This is happenning to Joe far to much just to be a coincidence.

This is what i call joe speak. You know what he said but that's not what he meant. he actually meant that kessler should take a few more fights, so that maybe kessler can lose in one of those fights, so joe never has to fight him. ever.

I believe this is Calzaghe showing his generous side...letting Kessler make some more money and win fights before he hands his arse to him on a plate.

But seriously, I think Calzaghe's put his cards on the table about the way he wants to go about things, and that is by fighting Jermain Taylor first, and then going after Kessler. Financially for him, if he's confident that he can beat them, that is probably the way to go, because a win against Taylor would put his profile through the roof in the states, thus making the unification with Kessler much more bankable for the biggest market in the world for boxing. The US.

I confess that I'm a big fan of Calzaghe, and I want to see him cement his legacy, but if he doesn't face Taylor or Kessler in his next fight, then I'll have to admit that he is bottling it, or Frank Warren is bottling it for him.

CMon Joe, and come on Jermain, lets get this one OOOOOON!
