I know what your saying also about being a part of a group that's doing something..

About 8 months ago at work, there was a guy that worked in our warehouse that had only been working there 2 weeks. But on the way to work he was in a motorcycle accident and lost his leg at the scene..
Everyone at work had heard about it by the next day so we all collected money and did a couple of things to raise money for him to fly both his parents over from the other side of Australia.. Because he'd just moved to my our state and didn't have anyone here.
It was really cool, and our company paid for accomodation for them for a weeks while he was in hospital.
That was great that the whole company put together for him even though none of us knew him. Now he's working in our office a couple of times a week because he can't work in the warehouse.
Our company could have just forgot about him like some companies would but they've looked after him heaps..
It doesn't take much of your time or money really to do something, but it makes a huge difference to the people on the receiving end.
