Floyd would run away like a little girl, that's why it matters....Hearns was pretty quick on his feet though but all the movement could sap some of that power.

I'd love to see Hearns spark Floyd the fuck out

I say Mayweather wouldn't run, and would win on the inside... Tommy was a horrible inside fighter.

Of all the guys at Welter in the 80's I give Tommy the best chance of beating Floyd, having said that Floyd is one smart fighter and his ability to adapt to certain styles is incredible.
I think Floyd wins a UD.

I agree with a lot of your post... THat size of the ring wouldn't matter, because Hearns would actually have an edge fighting from a distance and Floyd would be best suited to beat him in the pocket.. Not that he would, that's just where I think Floyd would do best. A slightly suspect chin was by no means Hearns only weakness though as Taeth just said he had almost poor infighting ability, he had great timing, speed and pop.. Making it easy for him to catch people coming in, but once they got there he was much, much more hittable.. The Hagler and Leonard fights are perfect examples.. Anyways I would agree that Floyd just didn't have the power to hurt Hearns enough, but I do think Mayweather could give him a hell of a fight by fighting in the pocket. I don't think Hearns would neccesarily stop Mayweather either, he could, obviously.. But Floyd is very very crafty and would at least do enough to make it very close and last the distance imo. In fact Floyd and Mosley are the only WW's who I would think could last the distance with Hearns if he were around today. One things for sure... He would ice Tony, Cotto, Williams, something FIERCE. none of them are skilled enough to get inside without eating that big right. Judah.. haha, now that would be brutal.

CC,super post although I TOTALLY disagree on Mosley lasting the distance with Hearns. Totally. Molsey would have a heart attack woht Tommy's height, jab and straight right hand. He couldnt' handle Vernon Forrest,no way could he handle Hearns. Shane, apart from in the OscAR fight, the first one,has never really impressed me fighting backwards,he looks confused. Hearns would beat him up.His low hands are ok for guys with shorter reach but someone like Hearns would land time and time again, and no one can take Tommys punch! He even shook that head of granite Marvin Hagler!

I agree Hearns was not as good on the inside but the best example of that is v Hagler, the ultimate search and destroy fighter. And Hearns could land on the inside for sure. Hagler was able to get to him with his power and like you said,Floyd wouldn't have that deterrent and like yo said,I doubt Floyd would do that. Anyway you look at it,I only see one outcome,a Hearns victory.

And you know how much I like Tony and Cotto, but Hearns would probably KTFO those guys in the same night and still have energy to beat Williams too!

Boxing Ability--Though Floyd is a great boxer Hearns was one of the most underestimated boxers out there...Mainly due to his KO ratio and no one really seeing his boxing skills untill the leonard fight but if need be Tommy had them...I give the edge still to Floyd but not by much...

Speed--Hearns was FAST!!!....Anyone who has seen most of his fights know that his speed is what enhanced his power....That straight right came from no where it seemed at times...Floyd has faster combos but if he cant reach Hearns with them effectively they are not that big a weapon....This is a 50/50

Power...There is no question about this who has the most power...Hearns was a welterweight with Light Heavy power as long as Tommy does not look for one big shot that his opp is expecting and boxes his power punch was a suprise as well as leathel...Ask Duran about that...Anyone Remember James Shuler??...Flod could not eat too many of them or the night would be over

This one would come down to who was having the better night between the two and who was able to put their game plan into effect the best that night....

depending on who was on thier A++ game that night

Hearns by TKO...or Floyd by Dec

I believe that Hearns poor infighting ability comes from his excelent jab, goodnight right and his all around boxing kills
His timing was solid so he could land very effective against someone coming in. Hagler was a monster, the irressistible force and made good use of his chin and musclepower.
Against Floyd Tommy has the skills to fire the jab at will, keeping Floyd on the outside and wait patiently for the opening for the right

His infighting didn't look that bad when he was going toe to toe with Hagler you honestly think Mayweather would risk going on inside ?? he would just run like he mostly does and he would be koed with Hearns straight right.

Actually IMO Leonard would spark Floyd a lot easier then anyone....His power was underestimated...he could box his ass off and had a mean streak to boot...

I honestly think prime Hearns would win convincingly. Mayweather is tailor made for someone like Hearns. Too big, too stong, too busy, too good of a jab and straight right hand, and a very decent chin as well.
