That wasn't a prime Tszyu, that was an old inactive Tszyu. There's a significant difference.
You mean a 35 year old Kostya who hadn't fought in 7 months before meeting Hatton was inferior to the 35 year old Kostya who hadn't fought in 22 months before destoying Sharmba Mitchell Sorry bro, but that excuse doesn't fly around here anymore.
Neither one of those versions of Tszyu was a prime Tszyu. I don't see how what you just typed disproves anything I said before.
Because unbeknownst to you, a fighter's prime doesn't only last a fraction of a moment. It's pretty much common sense. If a fighter is able to produce consistent victories at a high level, the 'oh he wasn't in his prime' excuse goes right out the window. It's fans like you that try to say a fighter's prime is between two dates when they didn't lose, so that any argument against a fighter losing can be rebutted by saying, 'oh, well um, he wasn't in his prime.' Newsflash; great fighters in the prime of their career can lose fights. It happens all the time.

It would have been a great fight, I think it would have been a late round stoppage for Tszyu.
The post Phillips Tszyu from 1998-2002 was unbeatable and if you are talking that era then i'd pick KT against Floyd too!!

Kostya was far from unbeatable thats quite a statement you made there and he has a shot against Mayweather because we all know timing is the key to beat speed but Mayweather also has good defense so in that case i find it hard for Kostya to land his big bombs on Mayweather.

It's a big statement i know but i keep looking at his fights against Gonzalez who at the time had only lost to DLH and his fight with Hurtado and he destroyed them both. Remember that Judah at the time was everyone's P4P pick in 2001 and he was going to carve through KT's defense like swiss cheese!
I also think that Sugar Shane gave Tszyu a wide berth in those years and that was a wise decision.
I agree Floyd would have been hard to hit but if anyone could have done it then KT was the man.

You're taking this thread completely off-topic, since this is supposed to be about Cotto vs. Tszyu.... but I'll play along.

So are you saying that Kostya Tszyu was in the prime of his career when he fought Ricky Hatton?

Hurtado isn't good fight to mention because that fight made Kostya looked beatable he was dropped twice and hurt by someone who wasn't really known as puncher.

I'd say Kostya was in his prime when he fought Hatton. He looked as good as he ever did the fight just before that against Sharmba Mitchell. IMO you can take Kostya from '99, '00, '02, '03, or '04 and the result is still the same, just as IMO you can take Tyson from any year and he'll always lose to Evander. Again, just my opinion.

So u think hatton beats a 99 tszyu in australia with a non biased ref and crowd? Good luck convincing me of that.

Tszyu vs Cotto would be great. Tszyu gets my nod, only because Cotto is more conventional than Hatton, and Tszyu would land cleaner shots on cotto.

As for the argument about Tszyu-Hatton, Tszyu was still great, but had too long of a lay-off, and Hatton and his camp came in with the right style, and game plan to wear Tszyu out. Hats off to Hatton. If the fight was earlier in their careers, you could always say Tszyu, because he was a beast, but it could be countered that at that time Hatton wasn't ready, or experienced enough. Pure speculation, but I'd say Tszyu if the fight was when Tszyu beat Mitchell the first time, then beat Zab.

Hurtado had 25 KO's in 38 wins, not bad! KT was definately not hurt and was off balance with one of them and i dispute the other knockdown. Still it was a fight that was bound to have mistakes the way they went at it. Hurtado had Whitaker down too!
