I saw that first fight with Fenech and I thought The Professor won easily. It was a Tyson undercard. Can you say robbery? Don King....

All due respect to Nelson here but really he LOST that first fight, never won a round after the 3rd.
Fenech was robbed and very nearly stopped Nelson in the last round.
Still, having said that he cameback in the second fight and was magnificent.

Agreed, Fenech deserved the 1st fight!

I have been trying to find that fight online to no avail...my memory isnt the best but I could have swore Azumah was handing him his ass. Fenech was the favorite and everyone , announcers included , thought he was gonna win, saying Azumah was old. Maybe your right but I gotta see that fight again....

I only watched it again a few months ago and Nelson started very strongly and won the first three rounds but Fenech landed a huge right towards the end of that round that really slowed the Professor up.
From then on it was a war which IMO Fenech won and won well. It's true the commentators thought so too during the fight as Nelson appeared to be getting a beating and they were saying he should retire?
It is a true champion like Nelson who comesback and wins the rematch not many thought he would and then go on and fight for a few more years. A terrific fighter.

Imo he lost by a slim margin to Fenech int he first fight. I think he also lost his wife or a close relative shortly before the fight.
But boy, did he set the record straight !!
