Someone could be an 11th degree kung fu black belt with incredible skills and athletic ability... But if they may lose to some trailer trash who could tackle them and drop some elbows, then why would they bother to fight in MMA??
Because in MMA you are profecient in all ranges of combat.... Offense and Defense, you have to be aware of all those ranges and how fast you move in and out of them, in Boxing you are defending from the groin up and you can only hit the front of your opponent..... Its only 1 range, different fighters are comfortable standing or on the ground... Same as an inside fighter in Boxing or an outside fighter... See in a real world application an MMA fighter is a complete fighter he can fight standing, in the clinch, on the ground ETC....
