I hope you don't mind but I agreed with much of what you said in both so I took it upon myself to use many of your words and merge portions of both sides I agree with. I also added my own in!
Gerald McClellan was a special fighter from  the very beginning. He was tall, rangy and could box - as well as possessing shattering power in both hands.  Stylistically, he sacrificed much of his skill with his obsession for power. He did become badly unstuck against the first real fighter he faced. Would he have learned from the fight...  Of course!  No one wants to take a beating like that(unless you're Gatti).  Nigel was a great fighter but was allowed to foul in this bout.   Had he had the ability to contiue on I strongly believe that he would have been(already is in my eyes) one of the greats.
He had a style that I enjoyed to watch.
On a side note there was a good article in Ring Magazine talking about the two men meeting again years after the fight.  Benn put together a charity to raise money for his healthcare...
