i think everyone that's saying roy was not exceptional because he didn't have world class fundamentals is missing the point...

floyd sr said roy wasn't exceptional.

and that's ridiculous..because roy was extremely exceptional...if a trainer were training a young fighter that was trying to lead with left hooks and constantly leave his feet the way roy did, the trainer would stop it immediately...and young fighter would say "well roy jones used to do it"
and trainer would reply "well he's the exception, and you're not him"

How so? Thats my point Roy would be even great today if he had half the fundamental skill... You guys get your panties all in a bunch, thinking people are taking anything away from Roy... I sure is hell aint the man was subperb and a phenom.. But let the truth be told he has horrible fundamentals and that was his demise and fall from grace

well i was just commenting on what floyd sr said..and he never said why he felt roy wasn't exceptional...and all the comments about roy not having fundamentals just came out of nowhere..because not once did floyd mention fundamentals...so anyone commenting on roy's fundamentals IMO were just looking to say something negative (abeit truthful) about roy, but only discussing whether or not he was exceptional..is the case and he was

certainly not me discrediting Roy, I am one of his biggest fans... I just call it like it is... Thats like digging on Hopkins for not possesing great handspeed, it didnt take away from he has done, its just a fact. Like I stated not taking anything away from Roy, just presenting a fact, thats all

i understand, but the article..floyd sr never mentioned fundamentals....so i don't know why it was mentioned anyway..that's what i don't understand, if anyone was just commenting on what Sr said then i don't see why anyone would argue against roy being exceptional...

Just seemed like an appropriate segway for the topic... Its not the 1st time a point got expanded on a thread around here, as a matter of fact happens everytime :P
