well I am not sure it is that easy with Roy winning. Hagler was a great fighter. I think Hagler is one of the best ever no doubt. The only complaint I have about him is how he fought all the welterweights moving up like Hearns, Leonard,Duran and would not move up and test himself against a bigger guy like they did. He should have taken on Michael Spinks. Just to do what those guys did. That is why I think Hearns, Leonard and Duran tested themselves more.

Quite a bit Hagler would have to move up though 2 weight divisions to fight Spinks.

yeah it would have been alot 15 pounds, but Hearns and Leonard moved up 13 to fight Marvin and Duran moved up 25 so I thought Marvin should have done it. Just to test his boxing skills and not his strength. I always thought he talked a little tough with them, and didn't do the same with Spinks. Spinks would have been tough for Marvin to beat. Spinks was 6 21/2 and had the Spinks Jinx.

Well if he could carry the weight well Hagler would stop Spinks.

Good matchup. IMO a relentless pressure fighter like Hagler is exactly the type of fighter which could beat Roy. Who wins depends entirely at what weight though. If they fight at 165 or less I'd pick Hagler, over that weight Roy would just be able to keep him off to win a decision.

Think so? I have a hard time figuring this fight out. If Hagler could take Spinks punch I think he could stop him also. Would have been nice to see him try.

Spinks unorthdox style would give Hagler trouble but Hagler would win imo.

Spinks would knock roy out if they fought i think he hurt hagler bad. People forget how good Spinks was at the weight and had better wins then Roy at LH in my opinion.

the postings are interesting because you can tell by the opinion what generation a person is. THe ones who liked Hagler are in their 40s-50s and the ones who like Jones 20-30s. Just opinion. I am going to say Hagler because Marvin fought better guys.. He took a beautiful punch by Hearns which should have leveled him and came back and fought the round of history in round one. Roy did not fight the opposition of Marvin Hagler and to say he would win is just presumptuous of some. It is not that easy. And I am saying you put the Hagler who fought Hearns in with Jones and Jones has a problem. You put the Hagler who fought Leonard (Hagler was sort of inactive for 2 years since the Hearns fight) and Jones has a chance. After Hearns, Hagler fought only one time in 2 years until fighting Ray. He did not look good with Ray and I could tell this before the first bell rang. Against Hearns he looked 5 years younger than when he fought Ray. Hearns fought the better Hagler. Fact is that Jones is like alot of guys now. boxers who knockout lesser opponents with his speed yet he never fought his equals. Anda fighters equals never go down easy.

Cool click .. I enjoyed your write up . you make some good points , Hagler is an all time favorite of mine. liked his style better then Roy's . but in saying all that .
I think Roy at his best beats Hagler with the speed and reflexes .. Roy sees everything in his prime. he knows what your going to do before you do.

remember Roy beat Hopkins and James Toney at their prime , that’s worth a mention.. Roy at his best really had no equal.. i truly believe that. . I’m not one to kiss someone’s bullocks. Roy was magical in his prime.
