2 times is not good for Toney.. This hurts his career.. not prior heavyweight but why would he cheat like this and think he would get away with it. He should not get another title shot. I think he is a great champ but he should not be cheating.

This is really depressing for me being that James Toney is one of my favorite fighters. I hate to say this but I really do believe its time for him to hang the gloves up. But the way James is I'm sure he will come back once the suspension is up. I wonder what Freddie Roach thinks of all this and if James does fight again after the suspension I wonder if he will even train him. Anyone know if Roach has commented on this yet?
Toney has remained silent which is an unusual state of affairs for him and that does indicate perhaps in itself a certain admission of guilt.Originally Posted by miles
This is a terrible blow to boxing and a serious punch in the groin to the image and legacy of James Toney.
Its also a huge dissapointment to me. Toney has been one of my favourite fighters for a long time now and to have this come up at this stage in his career is a huge downer. Toney has had a long career with many highs but of course his recent career has been blighted by lows.
The win over Jirov was awesome. Then to beat Holyfield as he stepped up to heavyweight, it all seemed so promising. Then of course the tarnished "win" over Ruiz. I gave Toney the benefit of the doubt and hoped he would get back into the ring quickly. But he didnt quite step it up how I thought he should have and could have. The waistline got bigger and bigger. Then the awful "draw" against the champion journeyman Rahman. Still, I believed that if Toney could lose some weight he could win a belt. I thought Toney beat Peter first time out, but he had to take blows like never before. The second fight was a clear loss and Toney was lacking. Still, after a long break Toney was back and again I believed that he could make a difference with a fitness plan and a few quick warm ups. We got a shoddy SD against a journeyman and then he tests positive for 2 banned substances!!
My faith has all but flickered out. How stupid. To have been caught the first time why would he be so stupid as to take any risks again? It doesnt make any sense to me. What was he hoping to achieve by this? What benefits was he reaching for exactly?
The amazing part is that both fighters tested positive

See this is an opportunity for all those promoters out there....They should have fought off Toney and the opponent with the steroids.
And instead of Going like...trained by Freddie roach, they could go...trained by anabolic steroids inc....
And then we could have competition between the various types of performance enhancing drugs and see which is superior. They could call it boxing+ or somethin like that.
Uh...sorry dunno wher that came outta, its those damn pills my trainer bin slippin me.

The proof of that is in his last fight.. It wasnt televised.. He doesnt even really have the urge to have his fights on tv..
Hes just still fighting
Immortal Technique
But he is fighting and putting weird things into his body and justifying himself to nobody. Even I as a Toney fan find this extremely difficult to digest. Even if Toney were to fight again I would have a difficult time adjusting. Toney has caused a lot of damage here.Originally Posted by Tito_BHB

Theres way more to it then just his will to fight..
His skill is stil there to an extent but he just doesnt seem to find motivation to train and right for twelve rounds..
Even when he was p4p best he never fought all of every round.. But at this late stage..And with rumours of minor brain injury its probably not wise to carry on..

I dont know how he could carry on really. I would really like to hear James Toney's take on all of this to be honest. His silence isnt a glowing admission of innocence though.Originally Posted by Tito_BHB
Toney has been done twice for steroids now he is becoming abit of a joke this time they found 2 types in him 3 types in the guy he fought last aswell this is'nt good for heavyweight boxing and boxing in general.
Duran never took steroids though. With Duran's tendency to make excuses maybe he would have used steroids, but he never was positive for it and by the looks of his body I would say he never took steroids.Originally Posted by Tito_BHB
