To be honest as far as affecting Toney's career it won't make any difference. The guy is the new milleniums Roberto Duran and will keep fighting until he has a car crash or some other injury that finally finishes him off for good.

Toney lives to fight. If the entire USA banned him he'd probably go fight in Columbia or Mexico.

This won't be the last we see of him in the ring.
    Good point! Cc

The proof of that is in his last fight.. It wasnt televised.. He doesnt even really have the urge to have his fights on tv..

    Hes just still fighting

Duran never took steroids though. With Duran's tendency to make excuses maybe he would have used steroids, but he never was positive for it and by the looks of his body I would say he never took steroids.
Nobody said that duran ever took steriods..

    I doubt he ever did..

And in all fairness You couldnt exactly tell toney was on steroids!..I mean look at him! Lol

He wasnt quite ripped for his last fight

No I didn't mean Duran took steroids. I am just saying his tendency to make excuses and lie about fights he was in makes you think he would have tried them if he could have gotten away with it. Duran was the king of excuses. If he lost a fight fair and square against the better guys he had an excuse always, and then when he lost he was miraculously in shape. Yet the problem was when he lost he lost to Benitez,Leonard,Hagler,Hearns etc etc. The only time he was not in shape is when he fought those 4 guys. What a coincidence that he was not in shape for the 4 best guys of the 80s, but in shape for the lesser fighters. That was just Duran. I know I strayed from the subject. But the excuses have something to do with all this.

Default Toney tests positive for steroids. Suspended for a year!!!

Three-time world champion James Toney has tested positive for steroids and has been given a one-year suspension.
The state of California Athletic Commission issued the ban, pending an appeal, and said Toney tested positive after beating Danny Batchelder in May.

Batchelder also tested positive and has also been suspended until 22 May, 2008.

Toney, 38, also tested positive for nandrolone two years ago and it cost him victory over then WBC heavyweight champion John Ruiz.

"They have a right to appeal," said California Athletic Commission chief Armando Garcia.

"My recommendation is suspension until the end of the licensing year and a $2,500 (£1,267) fine for both.

"We will give them the 30 days to appeal. If they don't, that's what the suspension will be."

Toney won a split decision over Batchelder, an outcome that will not be changed, Garcia said.

Toney is a former middleweight, super middleweight and cruiserweight world champion and has 70 wins from 79 fights.

In Toney's defence, I completely believe he has never used steroids. The only proof you need is to look at the blubber he calls an abdomen
"Very few people really understand what it means to be a fighter. I hate it when I hear someone say, 'That fighter doesn't have guts. I hate that, I don't care if you're a world champion six times over or a four-round fighter, to step inside that ring, you have to have guts" Oscar De La Hoya

after the first steroid allegation or test I felt ok give him a chance, but 2 of them? Just seems idiotic for Toney to have another positive test. I do not understand how he would take the chance again.. He should be banned from the sport. If boxing has standards then it will be respected. I always thought Mike Tyson should have been banned after he bit Evander's ear. Does that sound harsh? I am one of those who thinks Mike is an all time great. But biting someones ear or taking steroids has to be something which boxing cannot stand for.. But in my view both Mike Tyson and James Toney are all time greats and deserve to be.
