I didn't mean to say anything bad about dirrell I think he used his speed wisely to not stand and bang or I think he woulda been KOed I was saying lewis defended him a bit too much for my taste

I think Jim is slowly being fazed out by HBO......Due to the domestic violence thing.... ... I didn't miss him

Dirrell was more or less disgusting in the ring. But Stevens was tailor-made for practicing using ring movement and height advantage. What we saw, besides Dirrell's wriggle-ass showoffmanship, was not so much a boxing match as ring movement abstracted and unadulterated.

Dirrell proved he was very good at it. Lewis' comments were, I think, very much on the mark.

When Dirrell is in against a fighter who 1) is of more equal reach; 2) does a better job of cutting off the ring; 3) is good at boxing from the outside; and 4) has good ring movement and defensive skills ... THEN we'll see him have to balance his ability to move with other boxing skills. Especially if the other dude has some decent speed and power.

This fight was no measure of much except the very thing he's being criticized for - his ability to point and move - yet that is what he demonstrated as one of his very strong skills. Sure, it wasn't much fun to watch, but my point here is that I think Lennox Lewis' comments were right on the money. He wasn't defending the fight as an interesting or good fight; he was saying that Dirrell was showing a mastery of being able to move in the ring.

Obviously, Dirrell will need to show more against an opponent such as I described above.

Lamps doesn't do the Boxing After Dark anymore. But I thought the chemistry with Papa, Merchant, and Lewis was the best of all the HBO teams.

...Listen to Fran, Max, and Lewis do their first BAD....NO CHEMISTRY no one knew their roles....Lewis didn't say ANYTHING and Fran was just horrible.

I like Papa, I like Kellerman, hell Teddy Atlas is ok every now and then....Merchant is easier to listen to when he's not complaining about my favorite fighters, same with Harold Lederman sometimes he gets annoying too.

The thing is usually if the fight is good the commentating is good too, I like the 3 man aspect of HBO's broadcasts it gives the fans the action from the announcer, side notes from the color man and expert.

ESPN's announcing team works well because one of the color guys talks between fights about other interesting match ups and with other guests, I like that too.

HBO may want to consider a 30 minute or hour long program that's a forum for boxing. That way all the boxing can be talked about, fight results, scheduled fights, and fights that could happen in the future, and maybe even go in depth on some fighters the way they used to.

Do that program once a month and it'll help out tremendously

I agree completely. I've always thought something like this would be a great idea.

Even if they don't want to do it as often as once a month, they go do an episode whenever there's a month where there isn't much going on.

For example, June and July are both busy months. June has Cotto/Judah, last night's BAD doubleheader, and then Hatton/Castillo. July has the Wlad fight, then the big welterweight tripleheader, then the Winky/Hopkins PPV.

But August looks pretty empty so far. Only the Morales PPV that I know of. Why not have a 30 or 60 minute show in August, where the HBO guys can discuss all that's happened in the last few months, and talk about what this means for the future. Maybe have one or two fighters call in for quick interviews as well.
I know I would watch this.
