I never give credit to a guy that is focused more on not getting hit than he is on landing punches. The goal is to knockout your opponent. If someone treats it like a basketball game just trying to outscore their opponent, won't win a found on my card.
Exactly. Which is why I absolutely hated the Dirrell-Stevens fight that was on the undercard to Malignaggi-N'Dou last Saturday night. This Dirrell dude was running all over the ring, rarely stopping to throw punches. That he won the decision was more of a testament to Stevens' ineptitude than anything Dirrell himself did. Had I been the ref for that fight, I would've told Dirrell's corner that his fighter had better get with it, or I'd be stopping the fight. I loved how Larry Merchant was all over the fight, dumping on Dirrell every chance he had. But hated how Lennox Lewis (the more I see of his commentary, the less I want to continue seeing him) kept defending the bum, calling his tactics "effective movement." Effective my ass.
