Yep, Froch would be good. Mundine has ability but when tested by good fighters (Kessler)he has fallen short of the mark. The next twelve months should sort things out with him one way or another.
A Calzaghe fight in Australia would attract huge numbers in Oz..40,000 attendance not out of the question.
You gotta give credit to Nievas, he's one tough guy. If you saw the fight he got hit with everything Mundine threw & still kept coming. He was just totally outclassed. Mundine coulda won the fight with his jab alone! I was quite disappointed Anthony didn't end it. Around then 9th, 10th & 11th Nievas looked ready to go & was getting caught by some big shots. But instead of pressing the issue Mundine choose to lay back & lay on the ropes a lot. I don't know it he was waiting for Nievas to punch himself out (which looked like his plan) but Mundine needed to keep the pressure on & end it!
I've always been a fan of mundine. I agree with Galaxy that mundine should have ended the fight against such a low ranked opponent, particularly if he wants people to take him seriously when he talks about how great he is. No doubt tho, like most boxers he will come out and say let it go the distance because he wanted to get rounds "under his belt" or something similar.
Sometimes winning every round is more impressive than knocking a guy out. Take Calzaghe v Lacy for example.
The thing was it looked like Mundine could almost end things at any time. But instead of putting his punches together or even following up after the jab Mundine seemed contempt to just look for that one big shot! I'll say this... if he fights like he did last night against guys like Calzaghe & Kessler he'll get stopped!
Thanks Galaxy CC from me. That's what I would have said too. Speaking to someone earlier they thought it may have been a way to give the fight more cred due to the criticism that was leveled at the fight. It's true too that a 12 round boxing display with 2 well matched (or at least equally experienced) fighters to win a fight is impressive and i enjoy that too eg: Hopkins v Tarver but I think mundine should have stopped an opponent who is ranked so far below him.
cc back bro, rankings aside it looked to me like Mundine was playing it safe! He hurt Nievas I think in the 3rd with a huge left hook... did Mundine jump on him? No. Anthony actually just sat back on the jab. Again in the 6th I think Mundine landed a crushing left to the body & you could see Nievas grimace & buckle a little. Again Mundine just sat back. All Mundine wanted to land was that one big straight right & a big right uppercut!
