This is a link to a site i go to regularly and have trained with a few of the chaps on here. They are all renowned self protection people with real world experience either on the door or in the CQP industry. Bear in mind there are also some inexperienced people on this site too who really don't know their a*** from their elbow.

Here is their take on Wing Chun. Some differing opinions but as a system of self defence it doesn't always stack up (IMO anyway)

Anyway the best form of defence is offence.

Its quite a long read but there are some good points if anyone is interested in looking through it. You might find it interesting Missy

    NP mate..

I absolutely love this quote from Dave Turton...and believe me guys this chap KNOWS what he is talking about.

"Its not so much thats its Crap or not
to me the answer is quite simple

    its LIMITED..

It was devised by a small bhuddist NUN to be used against the average chinese man of a century or so ago.. average size.. 5ft3 and 8 stones..

Its good at what its was devised for..

after all a hammer makes a lousy spanner

but its has more lacking than it has included.. so its LIMITED"

Apparently the nun story is always in dispute as to its truth but the general consensus is it is lacking in 'stuff'. If i was just starting out then Wing Chun wouldn't be an art i chose to give me some foundation skills and attributes...there are much better ones around. Just my opinion.

Good points in that thread. It is limited but so is every ma you examine closely.

"I think we could use the same title and answers as this thread for about 95% of all the martial arts being practiced out there.

Why is TKD crap? Why is Karate crap? Why is Jiu-Jutsu crap? Why is Krav Maga crap? Why is Kung-fu crap? Why is Systema crap? etc etc etc" - and this is what we've seen on these boards, add to it why MMA is crap compared to boxing and we've covered everything.

"Every fighting art can offer something positive" - I would agree with this. You just have to be critical and not just accept everything someone says.

my old sifu is mentioned in the thread.

Yep...every MA is limited (to a degree) in a self defence capacity thats why i have always said martial arts will give you attributes to use but don't rely on a single system to get you out of the shit if it turns physical.
