Hatton and Cotto are stylistically different.
Hatton is more of a "in spurts," "wrestler", "mauler" type fighter.
Recently.... Hatton's stamina has been scaring me lately.
You can have an off night, but your stamina never has an off night.
Hatton's legit, stylewise he'll give Cotto and Margarito exciting fights.
But he's not the same as them. Let me explain, I'm not trying to hate, I actually admire Hatton.
Tell me what you think?
I think people think you have to be more talented than Floyd to beat him.
Partially true, you just have to have the right talents that compliment a boxer's style like PBF.
Cutting off the ring the ring is essential.
Hatton doesn't depend on that, he tries to grab you to hold you, to know where you are, and try to unload harder and faster than you. This won't be as affective against boxers who just need a good pair of legs who can back off in time, as shown in the Collazo fight... Hatton ended up following Collazo instead of cutting off Collazo.
YES Hatton may have had an off night, but Collazo is his first and only fight with a man with good legs. When Hatton looked his best, both Kostya's and Castillo's hardly ever back off... both fighters never used the ring, other than Kostya but Kostya by then was more of a hard, very accurate hitter who aimed for the best shots possible from the outside and depended on the other guy to move backwards. Collazo was the first to back off from Hatton... and I didn't see a good answer from Ricky. Off nights your slower and off the mark, but you still have answers, you can still use your brains, think of another strategy.
You never follow a boxer, you just end up falling into traps, even if it's a weak trap, it doesn't look good, and it tends to make you frustrated... further falling into more traps and make more mistakes.
In the Collazo fight, I really didn't see an effective answer other than keep following.
And even if Hatton holds you, you keep real close so he can't hit you with effective punches and if possible sneak in a quick punch.
Cutting off the ring is essential to defeat a ring general, Joe Frazier is the prime example of cutting off.
It's the most effective way to find that mid-range that punchers are at their best. Floyd's made to order for a strong jab. We knew that when we saw how easily Oscar landed it, just recently the old man himself said so also. Hatton's jab is workable, but I don't think it has ever impressed me. It's a means to an end, meaning it's more for a distraction and range finder.
What do you guys think?
