I'd have to say that Barry McGuigan, as much as I loved him when I was a kid is probably not in there due to his achievements in the ring alone. His time at the top was brief and he was never able to recapture the title.

Floyd Patterson is perhaps in only because he became the first to recapture the title after losing it but he could never hang on to it for long.

ken Norton was probably unlucky to have been on the scene during the heavyweights greatest era but he never won the title in the ring and lost it in his first defence (albeit to Larry holmes who went on to dominate). It seems he wouldn't be anywhere near the Hall of Fame if it wasn't for his fights with Ali.

There's probably more but I won't pretend to know about all of those fighters.

Also, does anyone think it's too easy to be inducted into the Hall of Fame and does it cheapen the honour for those that truly deserve it ?

Before I do this, I want to state, all these fighters were fine fighters, it is just we are talking about being merely superb, rather than absolute top level.

Fred Apostoli: Beat Thil, but then seems to lose almost all his other career defining fights.

Jimmy Bivins: A very good fighter but seems to be a political decision in putting him in here, not up to scratch.

Michael Carbajal: A fine exciting fighter, but never quite lived up to the hype.

Curtis Cokes: Good fighter, excellent trainer, nice bloke, but IMO, should not be here.

Victor Galindez: Limited comes to mind…

Beau Jack: Great name, great fun, great guy, had to deal with a lot of prejudice, but is a level below Hall of Fame.

Ingemar Johansson: A big right hand does not a Hall of Fame fighter make.

Harold Johnson: Stitched up by politics, not that does not mean you have a right to be a Hall of Fame fighter.

Ismael Laguna: Good fighter but outshone by the Buchanan’s and Duran’s.

Sonny Liston: Could of, should have, but ultimately did not….

Duilio Loi: Good fighter, but no Benvenuti.

Barry McGuigan: Good story, and he got the connections to get in the Hall of Fame, but IMO, he was third to Nelson and Fenech in his era.

Joey Maxim: Name pops up everywhere, against the greats of the 50s, but unless the fighters are inexperienced or are blown up 147lbs, he tends to have an L against his name.

Ken Norton: If only he was from a different era…. he would not get half the sympathy he does.

Bobo Olson: Good fighter, but again no Hall of Famer.

Willie Pastrano: Political decision, an underrated fighter no doubt, but not Hall of Fame material IMO.

Dwight Muhammad Qawi: A man who loses his two career defining fights (Spinks/Holyfield), gets a Hall of Fame place?

Edwin Rosario: Tragic story, but like Ingo, you need more than a big right hand to be a Hall of Famer.

Max Schmeling: Amazing life, excellent fighter, but a level below Hall of Fame.

Jose Torres: Great Author, adequate fighter.

But I must emphasis these comments are about weather a fighter deserves to be placed with the finest fighters of the last 125 years. Every single one of these fighter’s, is a minimum, superb boxer.

I'll have to go with Jimmy Carter. Guy wasn't even that great of a president, can't imagine him being much in the ring either.

Lew Jenkins was a good fighter but far from elite. He was tough no doubt, but lucky to be a hall of famer. I have complaints though

How many years do you have to be retired to get into the HOF?

Ingemar deserves to be there... fighter of the year 2 times, despite the "bad" heavyweight era...

Wow Britkid, you're tough. I wouldn't have questioned Liston or Schmelling.

Though, I admit I don't know who several of those guys are.

They all seem to belong in there although many of the fighters from long ago I don't know much about. There seem to be some names missing though. If Qawi deserves inclusion then so does "Hercules" Mike Weaver. Primo Carnera is missing too, and undeservedly so in my opinion. Sure he lost disgracefully to Joe Louis and Max Baer, but he won a lot of fights and beat some good ones, namely Jack Sharkey. He's 1 of the lineal heavyweight champs, who all should be in there starting with Jack Johnson at least. Max Baer is missing, another serious omission.

Anyway, I could go on and on. I suppose that politics has a lot to do with who's in and who's not.

    Barry McGuigan

And I think Tarver will get in on beating Roy Jones

They'll probably put Vitali in there too.

And they'll probably put Gatti in the hall of fame too

Beating Pedroza was a great result but should that be enough to be a Hall of Famer ?

I didn't even notice. Sorry about that. I guess that shows you how much I know about the boxing hall of fame.
